I use the same things on my 2/ W 8.1's as I do on my 2/ W7 PC's

What files do you find a need to clean?

Every time my we are done using the computer we run CC cleaner to clean up all the internet files. We had Windows 7. Do we still need this on Windows 8.1?

Just like windows 7, it didn't really need it. But it usually wont hurt anything unless you start adding check marks.

My browser is set to delete temporary file cache on exit. I do save cookies and history & forms(passwords) and every now and then I do delete those and start fresh. About the same as CCleaner. Windows runs automatic periodic maintenance and cleans most other things up correctly and nicely.

As an old protocol, while having my morning coffee I run CC on my W8.1 every Saturday morning along with updating other applications. I remove 3/4 to a full GB of flotsam. Never had a problem with it.

Re-read Mikie's comment. All browsers have an erase or clear function you can reach with no more than a few clicks. Some (like Firefox) can be set to automatically erase everything when closing.

You really don't need another program for this task.

Yes browsers have their own utilities, and they work just fine in servicing the browsers..

However, the member did not limit her question to browsers. "How do you clean the files in Windows 8.1?" is what she asked. CC cleans a whole roster of other Windows files.

Is the use of CC as I do necessary? Maybe, maybe not. It just an old protocol I use with admirable total system results.

Without wanting to appear to be pedantic, DA, and with all due respect, if you've "always" used it, how do you know what benefit you're experiencing by using it?

I don't use it and I experience admirable total system performance on my PCs too.

I have maintenance protocols which I utilize solely for the reasons that my systems always run care-free, and like new by using them. Some may be old school and none of them were my idea, but rather suggestions from respected users. A few minutes a week with a coffee is nothing in time to me. I feel why should I tempt fate or ignore success?

I downloaded cc cleaner on my husband's computer. I'm going to use the internet explorer options on mine.

I live fine with my protocols, share my experiences, and move on. The final decision is left to the informed reader as exampled above.

As well, there are many temp files left from program installations, updates, and so on that are usually not removed automatically.
And that is related to the OS, not any browser.
CCleaner works well for that.

If you're worried about what's going to happen, just use the "Analyze" button and check what's going to be removed before clicking on "Run".

CCleaner also has a very good registry cleanup function under "Registry" - used it many times.
