How to Install Internet Express?

HP Win7 Home Premium Desktop, about 2 years old.

I have not used Internet Explorer on this machine. Now I want to, primarily because I have an Angelfire web site, and with all the different browsers now, I would like to see my pages in IE. FF is my default browser.

Here is what I see when I try to install IE from a link on my desktop:

Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this Computer. Yes.
Internet Explorer 11 MS Corp. Downloaded from the Internet. Yes.
(Next message:) IE did not finish installing. Set up can't continue because a more recent version of IE is installed on your computer.

What do I do now?

Your heading says Internet Express, but you speak of Internet Explorer.

I'll assume you mean Internet Explorer, the browser. I believe it's always preinstalled on all Windows machines. Click on Start, All Programs, and look for the blue lower case "e" icon and the words "Internet Explorer".

Can you find that?

If you have downloaded internet explorer from angelfire, it would be a good idea to run something like malwarebytes.

If Internet Explorer is installed already you should be able to just type into the search or run box iexplore.exe and you should be able to make a shortcut to it on your desktop too with same filename.

I've read several posts similar to this one and I don't understand what all the fuss is about. If I wanted to reply to a Craigslist email, I could do it in about 6 seconds with a few mouse clicks and not have to make any changes to the browser at all, nor would I need to install any type of a plug-in that might not be supported the next time the browser gets updated. Right-click the Craigslist email address Select Copy E-Mail Address with a left-click Open a new Tab-go to your AOL EMail Click Compose Right-click in the To: field and left--click to PASTE the email address you just copied a moment ago. What could be easier? Sometimes the problems encountered by users wanting to make everything work with one click are better solved by using what is already available to you. It's not that hard, and you just might learn something useful along the way.

I'm sure I will be flamed for being too harsh, but unfortunately sometimes there is no other way. The idea that "these people should be stopped" and "there should be more regulation of the Internet" is idiocy bordering on insanity. The evildoers are so numerous and so widespread that any conventional means of reducing or eliminating their activities is not only impossible but would involve an amount of time-effort-resources which is simply unavailable and never will be. Remember THE WAR ON DRUGS? How is that workin' out for ya? THE WAR ON POVERTY? That never worked well either...still too many poor people in this world. But the amounts spent on these efforts are staggering and mostly ineffective. Aside from the fact that the evildoers want to steal your money and make your life miserable, there is this one simple truth: THEY ARE DOING THIS BECAUSE THEY CAN. Their knowledge of computers and the Internet is far beyond the level of average users, and they know that their victims really are too stupid to use a computer and will do little or nothing to protect themselves. Congrats to the OP for escaping the trap and thanks for spreading the word, but venting your frustration on FedEx is laughable and worthy of ridicule. FE is just a tool that the scammer tried to use to lure you into the trap. It could just as easily been someone else. If the next scam comes from "UPS" and the one after that comes from the "United States Postal Service" and you decide to stop using them too, who will you be shipping your next package with?

My first computer...a Tandy dinosaur bought around 1989/1990...was not internet "ready"...but that's the one I cut my teeth on. ;-) From there...to a top of the line Gateway desktop...and now an Asus Pundit Book End Tower...which I adore...replaces the Gateway that went boots up the day after my husband died. Best investment I've ever made as far as computers are concerned. It's a small, extremely quiet and clean, reliable workhorse. I've been on the internet...at differing levels of enthusiasm...for about 12 years. I've always used it as my major research tool but shied away from personal participation for a long, long time. I found the GW computer forum by accident a long while ago and participated there for a while. Then...my husband became ill and my computer time was slim, little and none. I discovered the KT...and was an active "lurker" for a long time before I worked up the courage to "get involved". I'm still not what I would consider an "active" participant...but I'm a daily "reader" who enjoys contributing when time allows. From all my years of internet observation...I have to add that the KT is the most congenial, caring and kind collection of "friends" that I've ever seen on the internet. It's a pleasure to spend part of my day here...whether I post or not. Anne

Outlook Express is a free email program produced by Microsoft. Sounds like your original program might be corrupted, so you could try downloading a clean version (it's free). Hopefully the new version will copy across all the messages and addresses from your old version (fingers crossed), but it's a good idea to print out anything you might miss if it were lost. Then you can download the version of Outlook Express that suits your operating system (Windows or Mac). Many sites offer Outlook Express for downloading, incuding MS itself (www.microsoft.com). Mikie, No, I didn't download it from Angelfire; the short cut icon has been on my desktop since day1. Where do I find the search or run box?

Maybe the easiest would be;
Right click the desktop & choose New... Shortcut
type in the box that opens iexplore ...then push next
type in IE to name of the shortcut .. then push finish

What happens when you double click that new IE shortcut you just made ? It normally would open internet explorer.

Here's my speculation -

Internet Explorer updates automatically with Windows updates. The shortcut you have is old and points to the download and tee-ing up of superceded version older than what is now installed. You shouldn't have clicked it, but you did.

It's now teed up to install the "update". It will try every time. But when the existing (newer) Explorer version already there is polled by the function trying to do this non-update update, IE says: "Stop, your update is old and unneeded".

The only way to stop such a tail-chase, if my speculation is right, is to do a Restore to a date earlier than the day when you clicked on the shortcut. In the meantime, click once on the shortcut and then hit the delete key so that it doesn't happen again.

System Restore, not System Recovery, will fix this. Don't do System Recovery.

If you've installed any new software or updates in the intervening time since the shortcut was clicked, you'll have to repeat those steps after the Restore is done. Your data files will be unaffected.
