I dont have your setup nor use earthlink but you mentioned something about pppoe... set the pppoe to connect in the router, not on any of your computers.

I used the automatic set up that Balkin had on their CD.

Open your browser and type the router ip address (probably 192.168.2.1) in the address bar. That should open the utility you need to set pppoe. You may have to look around a little to find it.

I would start by reading some or asking at the DSL Reports 'Earthlink forum and possibly also Equiptment Support for Belkin forum there too.

Lots of varibles depending on What brand/model is your modem and its configurations ?

I'd try to set the modem as a Bridge to hopefully pass real ip to the router and let the router handle the connection. Unless of course you have a really nice combo modem/router then just use that router you bought as a switch and access point.

Mikie, my modem is a netopia 33451-elk. It is not a combo modem/router.
I do not know the configurations. All I do know is if I check the status of it, it is working correctly.

if that is a netopia 3341 and earthlink hasnt buggered it up somehow... it is a rounter/modem.

I had no clue it was a router/modem.It is a 3341. With my adding a Belkin router could I have totally confused the computer?
Yesterday, I disconnected the Belkin router once I noticed I could not connect but it still would not let me access my e-mail.
I have since reconnected the Belkin router and my DH and DD get great wireless internet but my computer is messed up.

To add to the problems ,we had a snow storm last night and today when I tried to use the proxy server it turns out the DSL line was not working.
I called my neighbor and his was not working either so it was just not me
DSL is back but I am still having having the same connection problems. sigh........

If your wireless computers work and your wired computer doesnt perhaps you need to take a look at your start/settings/network connections .. right click your 'Local Area Connection',
select properties - highlight the tcpip/v4 & press the properties button under it.

Tick mark on both automatically obtain ip address and sutomatically get dns addresses.

You dont want to nor need to use any pppoe on your computer --
The modem, or the router,, one of those is already doing the login/password pppoe connection and holding it on full time. Your computer connecting to the router is all you need to care about.

I will do as you suggest.
A couple of years ago my connection would begin to drop for no reason. Earthlink had me create a new pppoe connection to reconnect when it drops. I have never cared for the connection as I still had to connect to Earthlink, too to make the whole thing connect properly.

O.K. I just went to the properties and under tcpip( I did not see a v4 after the tcpip) internet protocol it has a checked green box stating obtain an IP address automatically and in other checked box obtain a DNS server automatically. There are no numbers in the IP address section or in the DNS server address section. It is blank.

Sorry you're having such problems,, wish i was sitting there - its probably something very simple.

I don't know why you mention proxy server.
Some isp's might offer a proxy server for a web accelerator but normally thats just hype for dial up users.

Anyhow if you have a proxy server set up in the control panels internet options,, disable it. You want to see a check mark next to never dial a connection and under the LAN button settings everything should be unchecked. Those LAN settings are manual settings to override the default network adapter settings. You want basic normal nothing special connection to your new wifi router - which will give your network adapter a lan IP and DNS ip's as soon as your computer boots up.

You mail settings are in your Outlook Express or whatever email program you use unless you use the Earthlink webpage email interface which is nothing more than a typical web link usually.

Currently,I am connecting to the internet by going to Earthlink.net and clicking on the set up button. I am accessing my e-mail through Earthlink.net, too. That is the only way I can connect to webpages.I can no longer connect using on desktop icons or by going to internet connections. The problem started when I allowed a Belkin auto setup to program my wireless router to my computer. Even if I disconnect the router and try to connect the way I did before the router I still can not connect through my computer.

The only reason I mentioned proxy server was that when earthlink had me join teamviewer4, teamviewer4 stated I was on a proxy server and that I needed to connect with my computer connection. I am basing my statement on that info.
I may not be on a proxy server. Is connecting through Earthlink.net connecting to a proxy server?

I have not called earthlink back yet as the tech seems to get frustrated with my problem before it can be corrected. Also, it is a minimum 1 hour call each time.

I went to the internet options and looked at the settings I had unchecked the never dial a connection Saturday as my conputer kept on trying to do a dial up connection.
I went to the LAN settings and the box checked was something about default settings so I unchecked that.
I turned the computer off and rebooted. I now am connected to the internet without going to Earthlink.net.
I still can not connect to my e-mail as it states I am working offline and need to connect.My earthlink symbol in my task bar has the red x on it and states I am not connected.

I could not find any box in the internet options that shows I am on a proxy server so I must not be.

I took you advice and treated the e-mail as a separate problem and looked under Earthlink total access settings. I tried changing things and it would not connect.
I tried un checking the Use pppoe box and it would not connect under DSL. All of the sudden I saw an option to uncheck a Use PPPOE box with a LAN connection and my earthlink connected and I can access my e-mail!!!!!
The only thing is I am not sure what I did or if it will be permanent! LOL
I am so glad you mentioned about not using PPPOE.
The strange thing though is in internet connections, I am still showing not connected for my broadband and earthlink but at this point I do not care as I am connected.

Well, I spoke too soon.
I had everything working fine for about 5 hours and then the e-mail would not connect. This time it stated errors in sending and receiving. I was still connected to the internet.
I shut down the computer and when I turned it on today. I could not connect to anything not even earthlink.net.
I am using my daughters computer as the wireless is working on it.
I am wondering by using a N router my computer can not handle it. Maybe I shpould have used a g router.
I am so frustrated over this.

If wifi works on wifi computers from the new router,, the wired ports on the new router should work too. Wifi on the new router is just another port, basicly the same as the wired ones, only the wifi has some magic invisable wires.

I think you have earthink junk installed on your desktop that you have become accustomed to using that is screwing you up. You dont need to use anything 'eathlink' to connect to the new router or check your email.
