kindle/wireless router won't connect

Sorry, I've read many of the "won't connect" post but could someone please hold my hand through the process?

I have a basic kindle and just bought a cheapie router today. I used the installation disc, all seemed to go ok with the install but my kindle will not connect. I have just spent several hours and have gotten no where. Help please. LOL

Should have mentioned that last night I made a few purchases from amazon and went to McD's this morning and had no problem with connection.

I agree with Mike. You can't tell in advance how far a particular router will reach. It just depends on placement and what kinds of materials it has to go through. I had a router in an upstairs closet that I could get a good signal from when I was 150' away in my greenhouse, but it couldn't reach another location in my house that was about 40' away. I routinely detect wireless signals from my neighbors who are hundreds of feet away. You will probably have your best chance of success with an N-type router, like the one you have. One other thing: If you have an existing computer that already has a wireless card in it, see if it connects up to your new router without putting in a new card. Many routers are "backwards-compatible" and will work just fine with older cards. My new N-router does precisely that with my computers (which range in age from 9 years old to less than a year old).

He knows basicly where you go if he wants to look. All the Routers I have used keep Log files of the main url like this site would show as a connect to 'ths.gardenweb.com' and all the advertisers urls, but not the particular directory or page. He probably just changed ssid or some part of the security without thinking about you. Ask him ! if you enjoy the free access. If I were to allow a neighbor to use my wifi connections I certainly would look in log files from time to time to make sure you werent spending time at child porn sites nor hooked on regular porn or music or whatever larger or moving lots of bytes with down/up loads. If you were to get your neighbor arrested and all his computer stuff confiscated for being an internet pediophile or sending threating emails or something ... he might shoot you if he doesnt realize quickly that he can now own your house and cars with little effort.

try a full power down of everything I do mean everything. Power off the computers, the router, the modem etc. leave all power off for 5 mins or so, then power up in this order, power to modem only let it get fully lit up, then power on to router, let it get fully lit up, then power up your computers letting each get fully loaded. Then try to connect to your wireless, I assume you have put in your wireless network passphrase for the laptops that are trying to access the wifi network.

I warned you I was computer rookie. Here is what I know: 1. I have two computers. One that is set up for wireless( laptop) and one that is an older computer no wireless and is hooked up to the router. 2. Both of them work connecting to the internet 3. My older one has issues and is very slow so I mostly use my laptop. Professor said something about his blackboard and wireless has problems time to time 4. I have the cable from the wall from the cable company that is hooked to their modem and then through an ethernet the older computer has a cable from router to it. 5. I wanted to do the same thing with my laptop. I tried disconnecting the olderr computer to the router and plugging the laptop in it's place but it still appears it is using wireless( because when I disenabled wireless) it wouldn't hook to internet I don't know how to check wireless settings to accept all like somebody recommended thanks

My second post just meant that the problem does not lie within the kindle.

I've been poking around and found that my computer is not reading the router apparently. It says no wireless device is connected.

Sorry, I'm so not tech savvy and not sure where to begin.

Your router should have a manual of some sort that tells you step by step how to set up and connect to your network. Just installing something from a CD does not set up the network. Your router must be connected correctly to your PC to work properly. My XP computer has in Control Panel a wireless network setup wizard. You could try that if no instructions came with your router.

My router did not have a manual, rather it had a 2 page guide that was basically worthless! LOL

But, instead of entering the password many many times as directed, I tried the security key and that worked. So, all is good.
