Good and quiet Dishwasher - recs?
Comments (38)I know this is a little late in posting, but I wanted to actually use it for a while before reporting back. We finally got it installed a little over a month ago and I'm so far very happy with it. We got the SHE68T56UC as I couldn't find enough differences with the 800 series that I cared about. It is very quiet, it fits way more stuff than my old dishwasher did, it doesn't dry things quite as good as I would like, but plastics are no different than the old one. The one drawback I do have is that my tall pot doesn't fit unless I rearrange the racks which to me is more of a pain than washing it by hand. Dishes comes out way cleaner and my glasses that had some kind of white haze that I thought was etching are returning to looking clear again. I only switched the dishwasher - not the detergent. It does take about an extra 40 min than my old dishwasher, but it hasn't bothered me as I can fit so much that at times I end up putting some stuff in and running it not completely full as there isn't enough space to fit more plastics for example or glasses in the top and the bottom isn't fully filled. I have yet to be left with anything on the counter to feel like it is taking too long to run so I can load it again. Edit: Forgot to add that I don't pre-wash the dishes except to scrape off large stuff, but DH does pre-wash, although he is starting to come around. So each wash is a mix of the two. Hopefully I can get a chance to test out it with nothing pre-washed at all, but I think it will perform well. I took the wash filter out to clean as the installer said to do it if things started to smell. It didn't smell, but I figured I'd make it a monthly thing just so I it wouldn't get there. There was nothing in the filter so really didn't need to do it. I'm sure as I go along I'll figure out how often it will need to be done. Comments (13)FYI while Miele describes PG8080i as 'integrated', they describe the ProfiLine PG 8083 SCVi as 'fully-integrated'. ( I guess that's the control panel vs no visible panel.) Seems that 8083 is not listed as ADA compliant, though 8080i is. A bit of a tangent, but wondering what the water usage on the PG8080i is?When I went to a Miele dealer to look, a salesperson steered away from professional line even though they had one on the floor (though I think it was actually professional 'for the home' PG 8083 SCVi they had on the floor), saying they were quick but much more water usage, and louder. But the loudness is 48 dB (well 49 in USA lol, apparently the Canadian version is quieter??!, see Canadian spec sheet vs US), so I"m not really taking her word as gospel on any other points, as I don't think 48 dB is 'much louder" than my current Classic ((46 dB)? My partner was very put off by the idea of high water usage and won't endorse going with the 8080i in new build if this is truly the case, anyone know about water usage? Spec sheets don't show water usage to my knowledge....See MoreAny thoughts on my prospective appliance line up?
Comments (23)Thank you all — more food for thought. sherri1058, Building for the CATS, cpartist — Honestly, I’ve not bothered to look at induction, it has never interested me. I may give it a test-cook and see how I like it. I love all of your enthusiasm for your cooktops. Building for the CATS — Your screen name makes me giggle. :-) It’s heartening to see you didn’t give up on the idea of a warming drawer, but concluded that the location was the problem - not the drawer itself. On the Miele, I know it’s just a refrigerator, but . . . SO elegant. cpartist — I think I’ve been in the fun years all my life — every decade gets better. :-) I will definitely post my kitchen plan for input. linus2003 — Thank you. I will compare those models. My mother just ordered one of the proline models (I don’t yet know which) to replace her 20 year old Miele. I think the price of one of those is about equal to the price of two of the 6165s, so it it may come down to space for me. plllog — I laughed out loud, literally, at your cartoon character comment. I am going to walk into the showroom and pretend I’m baking some of my everyday items and see which I prefer. I’ll take my dishes as well. :-) Great advice. Thank you! Chanop — Thank you so much of taking the time to post all those pictures and the detailed steps. I can certainly see why some people may see that as complicated for combi cooking. Oddly, however, it actually looks like fun to me. I know, I’m an odd duck. I can see myself setting up user programs for baguettes, boules, roasted [insert veggie here], etc. I gather custom programs are also available on the Gaggenau, however. This weekend I am going to an appliance store that has both the Gaggenau and the Miele. I will put both through their paces and decide from there. friedajune — All good points. Clearly, I need to do more research on hoods. Costco — good idea! GardenWeb forums, here I come! To misquote Blanche DuBois, I am deeply thankful for the kindness of strangers. Comments (13)Yes my machine has gone beyonde in service than many others. I have a worry as doing this as we all have when buying a big ticket applience is if I spend this much money do get my moneys worth? I know that Miele are moveing some of their production to other countrys and as we all know newer stuff are not as good as years ago, my worry is if I buy a new machine a domestic one I wont get this many operating hours out of it and need to replace it sooner, but I I buy a profiline Miele I will get longer service and dont need to wait for these long cycletimes. Whirlpool: thank you for those data, I am not to worryed about useong a bit more power and water, if It will clean my dishes faster I am all for it withing rime and reason. I always worry about doing the right thing before I make a desition like this. It is good to be able to share it and get some good points from other people, you do not feel alone in makeing the disition....See Moremarkb
