Meyer Lemon leaf yellowing with massive flower budding
Comments (7)Hi,I have killed several citrus trees in similar fashion. The older leaves have turned yellow and dropped from the bottom up.Do they leave the little stalk left on the tree attached to the trunk? Thats what always happened to me.I have grown to realise that it is too much water that causes that.I have also found adding a couple of teaspoons of epsom salts each time you feed helps the plant take up the nitrogen and greens your leaves.Water deeply and leave to almost dry out,the roots need air, thats what killed my trees before i reckon. You can use warm water with a little washing liquid for the compacted rootball you have.Water with slightly warm water each time. I recently bought a new orange tree and put it in a very free draining container mix.I also have tried this superthrive on advice from others here.My tree looks greener,it was a bit yellow on top.Do the leaves curl up from the sides in a u shape? Thats too much water.I water every 9 days and its summer here.Do the stick your finger down 3 inches bit,if it comes out dry water, if soil is sticky dont water. Good luck, there should be plenty here who know more than me.cheers...See MoreMeyer lemon - lots of flowers, no green growth
Comments (9)I'm in Massachusetts. I had the same thing happen to me. Two falls ago I bought a meyers lemem on sale at a local nursery which was bush shaped not really a tree. The first thing I did was repot it. I said if a little soil is ok alot of soil would be great. I put it into a large pot. It had green lemons on it when I bought it and they all ripened. The leaves started to fall off one by one. By the time spring 09 came around it was bare. I put it outside but spring did not show up until June 09. It rained and overcast for two months. I dumped out the tree to find the soil was soaked even though I put large bark chunk on the bottom. I put it back into its original container with a lot of perlite in the soil. I read here that the best thing to do with a lemon is forget about it. It came back in June with all blossoms that quickly just dopped off. Then new growth started so I think it liked the soil conditions. Unfortunately I dropped a car jack on it and broke one whole side of main root on the root stock. It survived this winter inside next to a humidifier. I just put tree sealer on it a couple of weeks ago because it lost almost 3/4 of the bark. It is putting on new growth and I think it likes the record temps we had today. The main thing you will read is that lemons don't like wet feet so well drained soil is important and don't fuss with it. I think it must be related to a cactus even though you would think it gets lots of rain in florida. I'm already looking to get a tree shaped one like edible landscapes have on a youtube video I watched. Thats my experience with Meyer Lemons....See MoreAn explosion of Meyer lemon flower buds!
Comments (3)Hey Andrew..Congrats buddy! Hopefully the fruit will stay on this time around... I hear you on wishing you knew more back then! I lost so many trees in the past before I knew what I know now, I almost gave up... Want to hear a story not citrus related but one you can appreciate? I was able to get a Mango to grow to at least 3 inches big on my little one foot tall Mango tree, that is until teh DA.... squirrel whom I caught walking away with it in it's saw me and ran even faster..OOOOOOOH Next year I'll be putting some kind of screen barrier between my fruit and them just like they walked off with many Lemons too! Thank goodness I have no use for lemons....lol Have a great day Mike...See MoreMeyer Lemon Tree is flowering

If you are talking about leaving your 'lights' on 20 hours, that's not healthy either..Maybe your roots are focused too much on growing and not enough of top growth, which is not good either...All I can tell you is that pics speak a thousand words and the leaves look terrible..I'd like to see the roots..Can you take a pic of those? You are doing something wrong because if you were getting that much root growth, the top should be doing wonder too......See Morehoosierquilt USDA 10A Sunset 23 Vista CA
