Poseidon & Plum Perfect Roses
Comments (47)I gave that one to my mom, but I've seen it a couple times this year. I really like the color. It was perfectly healthy this year and we've had a ton of rain this year near Cincinnati. I think I just heard that it was the wettest July on record. I know it's difficult to draw conclusions on a 1st year plant (especially one growing in someone else's yard), but I like what I see so far. From what I've read, the hot and humid isn't a problem for Plum Perfect. However, there was some uncertainty on winter hardiness due to it being a new introduction though. Comments (86)I have a question..I'm leaning towards Florentina. I have a block wall(6' high) and on one side of an entrance over which I have a sort of trellis.. I have Sombreuil and was thinking of Florentina on the other side. The wall faces north west..so gets plenty of sun in the afternoon..would Florentina be OK in this location? Morning shade. Sombreuil is positively thriving. In fact huge!! Sombreuil has covered the trellis and heading off in the other direction along the wall..I removed the 2nd Sombreuil from the other side of the entrance so she wouldn't cover my garage!! I i live in Oregon in zone 7. I moved the other Sombreuil in early summer and she is taking off in spite of our 100 degree heat wave!! Any one wants a gung ho rose Sombrueil is it!! Does need dead heading to keep blooming though....See MoreVarious Climbers, HMusks, etc: opinion wanted.
Comments (63)Just browsed Nortland Rosarium website, they are in zone 5b .. and they never sell Felicia nor Perle d'Or .. both of them are NOT hardy for zone 5. That's why I prefer rooting them from cuttings, rather than buying them and losing them through zone 5a winter. http://northlandrosarium.com/table.php Northland Rosarium offered Peter Mayle in Sept. & Oct .. now they offer Rouge Royal as own-root instead. Pretty Lady rose and Miranda Lambert are also offered now. I also see Rhapsody in blue, Love Song, and Twilight Zone offered as own-root. So tempting !! I would buy them if they survive more than 5 years in zone 5a. I'll wait to see if my new approach of digging down to 2.5 feet for drainage & put tons of leaves on top & water in dry spring is successful before buying more roses....See MoreKordes Florentina companion roses
Comments (5)Hmmm. I wouldn't have thought to put a true red rose like Florentina with peachy roses... but if you like those colors together it would look great. Is something like this what you're envisioning? Totally different roses, but when I searched for red and peach roses this photo came up from https://www.gapphotos.com/imagedetails.asp?view=rosa-flammentanz-rosa-belvedere-rosa-medley-pink-rosa-geoff-hamilton-geranium-gracile-sirak-phalaris-and-salvia-microphylla-in-mixed-summer-border-&imageno=126185 If you want more of a "fire" toned rose bed, then the yellow could work with the combo too. You would just have to tie it all in with some other companions below. All depends on what you're going for I guess. I have my Florentinas climbing a fence together with another single red climber, Bloomfield Courage (once blooming) and also with a huge white climber, Sombreuil. In front I have pink supreme carpet roses and purple/blue nepeta as companions. Totally different look than your plans... but both can be beautiful. :-)...See Moreseil zone 6b MI
