It was one I hadn't read before and found it at a second hand bookstore when the kids and I went back to visit my dad. They bought tons of old books. They love books...so do I. I also bought book 5 or whatever it is of the Outlander Series...and book one. Only read the first one and need to find the books in between now. I can't remember any others. I think I'll make a list this year of the books I've read, just to see how many I do read in a year. I used to read a lot more before I became a nurse. I think I got burned out on reading textbooks during school. lol.

I pick up at least one free book a day from Amazon. I get the 3 email lists with all the great deals and freebies daily. Pixelofink.com, bookbub.com, and bookgorilla.com. So many wonderful free books offered daily. I have the kindle app on all of my devices which allows me to read any kindle books, but I can also read other formats like epub with my other reader apps like aldiko, there are free lists for those also out there. Today there are another 2 of the J.A. Konrath series for free and one for 99c. I now have just about that entire series by picking them up every time one was on for free. The main character is a woman detective, her name is Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels which is why the names of the books are all drink names. Now that I have finished The Thirteenth Tale I can say that the similarities to The Shadow of the Wind are the love of books and reading and the parallels between the current and past lives in the stories being told. Otherwise, I would say that The Shadow of the Wind was a "heavier" book in a way, meaning that it touched more on politics and history. The Thirteenth Tale, while completely serious in tone, also has some bits of humor that I just loved. It is a very discussion-worthy book, in my opinion, because I have some questions that I can't ask without creating spoilers.
