I posted this excerpt from the novel-Fools Heaven  Love, Lust and Death beyond the Pulpit- in light of recent reports on high profile megachurch leaders and televangelists.

Reverend Mike Robertson had walked halfway across the parking lot of the massive Higher Road Baptist Church Worship Dome. Tonight he would kick off the fall harvest season. The air was crisp for a night and this would be his finest hour. MikeÂs face had just graced the covers of three national magazines, which named him one of the three most influential preachers in the country.

'Oh my God!' Mike yelled as he saw headlights and a massive truck grill headed straight for him.

The pastor heard squealing tires and sounds of a revving engine. When Mike held up his arms with his Bible in one hand, time seemed to stop. It was hard to tell how many seconds passed before contact, but he saw every moment of his life at once. Then with one impact, his world went dark. A one hundred and eighty pound body of flesh and bone was no match against a more than two-ton mass of rolling steel. His five-foot ten-inch body flew up over the hood and landed with a thud in a grassy area that divided the parking lot into sections. His ears would not detect it when the truck that ran him down left the parking lot and continued down the highway at a high rate of speed.

'Oh Jesus! The Reverend! Somebody just ran over the Reverend! Call 911!' a woman screamed out.
