One For The Money - the movie

I know we're all pretty much tired of Stephanie ... but now the movie version of One For The Money is coming out. NPR had the trailer up this morning.

The cast is not really what I pictured (I always envisioned some version of Estelle Getty when reading about Grandma Mazur), and in the trailer Ranger looks too chipper and Morelli looks ... er, not Italian. But who knows, it might work. At least Stephanie appeared to be getting better at her job in the movie version.

Despite working in a library and knowing how incredibly popular this series is.. I've never read any Evanovich. Or if I once did, I don't remember it. The trailer, though, looks funny in a fluffy, "yeah, I can watch this with my grounded teen daughter" way so thank you for posting it! Plus, it mentions Tastykakes so how bad can it be?

Went to the movies today; a question for parents of young ones

Yeah, good question. I think you can judge it by how they behave in other situations. Can they sit through a whole movie at home without getting restless; How long can they sit in church; what does their teacher say about their school-day behavior; can they sit quietly through a meal at a restaurant? Etc. Of course, you could think it's the right time and be wrong cuz kids are kids! I agree that a short kids' movie during the day is the best time/place to begin. And be ready to make a quick escape if it gets out of hand. I've heard of the special matinees for parents with young kids. I don't know if they do it anymore, I wonder how necessary it really is with dvds & the like. Honestly, I haven't gone to a theatre to see a movie in years. The last few times I went, I really felt the experience was not worth it. People talking through the movie, cell phones ringing, etc. And these are adults. I used to sign up through our local newspaper for free movie nights. They'd pick names at random and send free tickets to a new movie preview night. We used to go about once every couple of months. Free! But I got tired of all the commercials before the movie and disturbances I mentioned above. The last movie we went to see, the sound wasn't working properly and it was too low. After all the previews and about 20 minutes into the movie, they finally decided to fix it. Well, after about a 15 minute wait, instead of just picking up where they left off, they started the whole sequence over again, including previews! I swore that was the last time I'd go to the movies. I have a large screen and surround sound at home, cheap popcorn, clean bathrooms, and if anyone talks through the film, I can rewind!

Here are some I've watched recently: Enchanted - a very cute movie Atonement - I enjoyed it, watched it with 3 other people and they all thought it was too slow Bee Movie - cute Into the Wild - excellent The Brave One - different than what I was expecting from watching the trailer, but it was very good Dan in Real Life - very good! Watched it on the plane and now wishing I had watched it on a big screen Death at a Funeral - British comedy, hilarious!! Becoming Jane - very nice, a chick flick I guess Feast of Love - a bit slow moving but good, Morgan Freeman is in it and I always like him Rendition - pretty good We Own the Night - good, a bit of violence Martian Child - very sweet No Reservations - chick flick, sweet though, rated G I believe

You know, it looks kinda cute from the trailer. After seeing Katherine Heigl in a string of really bad movies lately I was giving up on her, but I might try this one after all. One for the Money is the only Evanovich book I've read, and I didn't love it enough to follow up on the rest of the series. If the movie doesn't follow the book too closely, I won't be offended the way an ardent fan would.

Rosefolly, the early books were darker than the later ones, I think from about 4 they were in a lighter style.
The trailer looks like the movie has focussed on the more amusing parts of the book. Characters in a movie don't often match up to my vision of them but I 'take it as it comes'. It is interesting to see the screen interpretation of a favourite book.

I've read all of the Stephanie Plum books and am a huge fan. Yes I did get tired of reading them all in a row and alternated them with other books as well. It is very rare that I see a movie, probably one every three years or so but I may just go see this one.

Clearly the casting people haven't read the book. They lucked out with Lula and possibly Stephanie's parents (especially the Dad) but yes, Grandma Mazur is more Estelle Getty, Ranger is more smouldering Latino and Morelli is definitely Italian. Katherine Heigl is OK but only because the actresses who would better fit my imagined Stephanie are now a couple of decades too old ;-)

Colleen, I agree! I always pictured Sandra Bullock as Stephanie, but as you said, she's now out of that age range.

I've been disappointed in the most recent Plum books, but the movie does look like it could be fun. Perhaps I'll wait for a rental, but I'll definitely see it.
