A little behind in movie watching, but I've seen a few good ones

My DVD player has been on the blink, so I gave up movie watching. Then i toyed with it some and got it to work and instead of rejoining NetFlix, I have been checking them out of the library.

I just watched Million Dollar Baby - I can totally understand why it won the awards it did. Fantastic acting, great story, wonderful actors. Made me appreciate Hillary Swank, who I've never seen in anything before.

Which brought me to Freedom Writers. WOW. I must have been living under a rock because then I find out it was all based on a true story. Great movie, excellent story.

Last night I watched The Queen with Helen Mirron. Interesting perspective on the royal family. I guess they took enough liberties, but who would have thought the Queen Mom and Prince Phillip were such cold-hearts?

Ella Enchanted. Okay, so I'm an old-head, but what a cute movie.

Sometimes there are other movies that I never would have given a thought to renting from BB or Hollywood or even NetFlix. My library has a decent selection and you certainly can't beat free.

Anything you've seen lately that's worth a look-see?

i'm in to watching Murder mysteries/suspense/thrillers...I've watched "Convicted", "Switchback" and "Mystery Woman" this week...all really good movies!

Right now...I'm watching Harold and Maude...a cult classic...what a riot Ruth Gordon is in this movie!

No Reservations was really cute with Catherine Zeta Jones. I really enjoyed it.

I have Dan In Real Life at home to watch from Netflix. I saw it at the movies and it was pretty cute too.

Watched most of the ones stated earlier... LOVED Autumn Rush... watched it a couple of times. LOVED Amelia.... was really really good. Don't know how they painted on all her freckles! tee hee. LOVED Avitar. Want to see it again and then buy it when it comes out. He is just not that into you was kinda funny. Journey to the center of the earth was kinda good too. Will watch it again. Old ones.... Abyss. Very very good. Not scary at all. Kinda liked Twilight. Will watch it again to see if I can get it better. Multiplicity.... LOVE that.... And Big. Love just about anything with Tom Hanks in it. So many good movies.

I always taste test one grape. I am testing for firmness. I've had too many times when I bought grapes and when I get home, I find out that they are soft (not fresh). That is the fault of the store, so I do not feel guilty about eating one before I buy. As for cut fruit, I would never buy a cut watermelon or any other cut fruit because of dirty knives and I don't want someone's hands all over it. Also, I only buy USA fruit (except for bananas). That means no grapes from Chile, etc. In winter I wanted to buy an orange and they were from South Africa. South Africa! With California and Florida growing oranges, I have to buy an orange from South Africa? I actually looked up on Google the distance from where I live to South Africa and it is almost 8000 miles. I complained to the manager and he said that the store buyers try to get the best deal for the shopper. Wrong. They are getting the best deal for themselves. I'm not crazy about produce from Mexico, but I've resigned myself to that, unless I can avoid it. For example, tomatoes from Mexico. I would never buy the onions from Peru. And absolutely no garlic from China. I bought some frozen strawberries and when I got home I found out that they were from Egypt. Egypt! Come on! Those went straight down the garbage disposal. By the way, I shop at a regular grocery store---Stop and Shop.

Actually have been to the movies recently!! Two times in two weeks!! Saw 'Little Women' last week - enjoyed it but it jumped around time-wise a bit and was sometimes challenging to follow. Last night went to see 'Just Mercy' and that was superb!! A true story, it will get you fired up for various reasons. One movie was pure entertainment and the other got you thinking and incensed and involved.

I thought "The Kingdom" was excellent. I just saw it 2 weeks ago. Evan Almighty was cute, as was License to Wed.

I just saw "Million Dollar Baby" this week also. I wasn't that interested but needed to see what all the hype was about. It was really good. Not something I would buy or see again but I really enjoyed it. The acting was superb.

I watched "Enchanted" last weekend. Loved it! Growing up watching Disney films, it was such a refreshing change to see how the "real world" would deal with someone that acted the way they do in the cartoons. It was cute, funny, and thorougly enjoyable.

"To live" was a great Chinese movie (subtitles) about a family struggling to survive durning the communist era. It took place at the time when my grandfather was living there (1920's-1960's) and so held some additional interest for me. This movie has been banned in China because of the communism portrayel.

I just received "The Kite Runner" from Netflix yesterday. I can't wait to see it. I loved the book.

Freedom Writers became one of my all time favorites. You're making me want to pop it into the DVD player. Michelle Pfeiffer did a similar movie several years. It wasn't a true story as far as I know, but it was almost as good as Freedom Writers.

For another really good true story, see Music Of The Heart with Meryl Streep. Great one!

I just saw "Blood Diamond" with Leo Decaprio which is based on a true story. Excellent movie, but a lot of violence.

Saw "13 Going on 30" for the second time. It's a very cute romantic comedy starring Jennifer Garner. Kind of a girl version of "Big".

naughtykitty, i'll be interested in hearing what you think of the kite runner as a movie. it was a spectacular book and i'm always leary of seeing a movie because they never do it the justice it deserves.

I thought Million Dollar Baby was a fantastic movie. I liked The Queen, too. I'll have to watch Freedom Writers.

When I had the flu this month I watched movies, none of them very recent. I reviewed them briefly on my blog.

We rented "Enchanted" for the family last weekend. Everyone enjoyed it.

Soon as I get some time to myself, my next day free of calls to sub, I want to rent "The Kite Runner" and maybe "Atonement," since I read both books I'm curious how the movies are done. I also want to see "Across the Universe" when I get another day off. I'm looking forward to watching all 3 by myself.

At the theater I saw "Bonneville". Some would say it was a chick road trip flick, but some men might be able to stand it. Also saw "The Spiderwick Chronicles" which is an older kids movie but I enjoyed it. I like magic fantasy movies.

Michelle Pfeiffer did a similar movie several years.
It wasn't a true story as far as I know, but it was
almost as good as Freedom Writers.

That movie was "Dangerous Minds" and was based on a true story.
I read the condensed "book" in Readers Digest.

I didn't think we would like "Freedom Writers" but we loved it.

I really liked Miss Potter with Rene Zellwigger (sp); the story of Beatrix Potter. Liked it so much I bought the DVD. Another good one, total chick flick, is Broken English with Parker Posey. Bought it also.

LOVED Freedom Writers! Loved Million Dollar Baby, but don't feel the need to watch it again. I just recently watched 3:10 to Yuma, the remake and really liked it. It was done very well. I also just watched Gone Baby Gone and thought that was a fantastic movie.

I'm wondering where bigbaby is; she loves to watch movies and could give you a loooong list. We have netflix and recently watched Death at a Funeral. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard.

The Ultimate Gift was really good. Has James Garner in it and I love him. Also Abigail Breslin is in it and she's amazing.

We just watched A Good Year with Russell Crowe. I had a little trouble with the French and English accents but it was a good movie.

Ron, Secondhand Lions and Napoleon Dynamite are my DH's absolute favorite movies. I'll have to put Death at a Funeral on my Netflix.

I love these kind of threads......it's always good to get thumbs up/thumbs down from "real" people!

Here are some I've watched recently:

Enchanted - a very cute movie
Atonement - I enjoyed it, watched it with 3 other people and they all thought it was too slow
Bee Movie - cute
Into the Wild - excellent
The Brave One - different than what I was expecting from watching the trailer, but it was very good
Dan in Real Life - very good! Watched it on the plane and now wishing I had watched it on a big screen
Death at a Funeral - British comedy, hilarious!!
Becoming Jane - very nice, a chick flick I guess
Feast of Love - a bit slow moving but good, Morgan Freeman is in it and I always like him
Rendition - pretty good
We Own the Night - good, a bit of violence
Martian Child - very sweet
No Reservations - chick flick, sweet though, rated G I believe

Atonement - I cried, it must have been good! Although the book was fantastic the movie adaption was pretty good.

Dan in Real Life - really cute, better than I expected.

I am Legend - was dramatic but a real disappointment. The whole premise of looking for a cure was wrong scientifically.

Death at a Funeral - wonderfully funny, easy to watch.

No Country for Old Men - very interesting film but I felt disappointed when it was over.

Immortal Beloved - Gary Oldman was mesmerizing as Beethoven and the music wasn't bad either!

The DaVinci Code - even sillier the second time I watched it.
