Seen any good movies lately?

I'm in search of some good movies...seen any lately? I really need to pull out the Christmas movies I've taped over the years...that gets me in the spirit!

If you haven't seen "The Ultimate Gift" with James Garner...it's a good chick flick...

We went to see a few action movies lately...the second Pirates of the Carribean and Miami Vice. Both very very good. My girlfriend and I went out the other day and went to You, Me and Dupree. Not as good. Funny, silly and stupid but lighthearted and we enjoyed it. Today (Aug 6) was the first year wedding anniversary for my daughter and her husband. Since it is their 'paper' anniversary when we went to the movies I bought 2 extra tickets and presented them with those pieces of paper when they came into the theatre. We went to a 'chick flick', John Tucker Must Die. A silly, teenage girl movie. We thought it was definitely for teenage girls. But we (my DH and I and the anniversary couple) enjoyed it. Good evening, everyone! What a treat to come back and find 4 new posts. You made my day! I really enjoyed reading about your treasures. Thanks so much for sharing with everyone. I've purged so often over the years that I'm amazed I have anything left, but those special things have a way of hiding out from me so that I don't do anything foolish with them. LOL I had a good workout, then came home to do piddling stuff around here. I finished the last book in a series by Gary Chapman and Catherine Palmer. I hated reading the last chapter because I knew that would be it since it was only 4 books, Spring through the following Winter. If you're ever in the mood for a just-because-it-feels-cozy kind of book, I highly recommend these. My next book is "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" that a friend loaned me. I'm sure I'm probably the last one to read it. Dinner is cooking, so I have a little play time here. I had leftover chicken breasts and leftover whole wheat spaghetti and creamed spinach, so I threw together a kind of chicken florentine or chicken spaghetti kind of casserole, all basically WW/Core and using up all our leftovers! Hubby gets the 1/2 cup of leftover mashed potatoes on the side, and we'll both have garden salads. Marci, happy first day of school tomorrow! I hope your assistant works out great. Jan, I drink green tea drinks all the time, especially before working out because I read in a Woman's World magazine recently that it maximizes your workout. Hey, I'll do anything to get double the workout! Raeanne, love your sense of humor! Suzanne, I've been keeping Sweet Pea's photo on my end table and keeping healing thoughts for him going everytime I look at it. Dee, I have my mom's last wedding band that my dad gave her for their 25th anniversary. I wear it whenever I go somewhere nice and think about how I'm taking Mom with me in spirit! She used to be a great Canasta player, so maybe she'll send me some good strategy if I wear it to the next game. :-) Well, hubby's home, so I'd better scoot. Watched most of the ones stated earlier... LOVED Autumn Rush... watched it a couple of times. LOVED Amelia.... was really really good. Don't know how they painted on all her freckles! tee hee. LOVED Avitar. Want to see it again and then buy it when it comes out. He is just not that into you was kinda funny. Journey to the center of the earth was kinda good too. Will watch it again. Old ones.... Abyss. Very very good. Not scary at all. Kinda liked Twilight. Will watch it again to see if I can get it better. Multiplicity.... LOVE that.... And Big. Love just about anything with Tom Hanks in it. So many good movies.

We've watched two of the four segments of Midsomer Murders, Set 22. (On a DVD from our library.) We must be getting close to having seen 100 of these mysteries. We have one more segment of The Paradise to watch. (Recorded on DVR from PBS.) I hear there is to be another season of this adaptation of an Emile Zola story.

The last movie I saw in a theatre was No Country for Old Men. Engrossing but a terrible end. I can't recommend it. I mostly watch old stuff on TCM and TVLand. I love all the holiday movies, especially How the Grinch Stole Christmas. TV Land is showing old Christmas TV shows all day Saturday, like I Love Lucy and Andy of Mayberry.

Lifetime and Hallmark channels have both had a lot of Christmas movies on lately.

At the movies, my DD and I saw Enchanted last weekend and we both loved it. It's a really cute movie.

Saw Fred Clause a couple of weeks ago at the movies and me and the kids thought it was just okay. DH liked it a lot though.

I've been watching old movies checked out from the library, and I just watched "Secondhand Lions". It has that little boy from "The Sixth Sense", who is abandoned by his mother with his two eccentric uncles, played by Robert Duval and Michael Caine. It's so funny, and also very poignant. If you haven't seen it, it's great, and safe for kids over about 8, I'd say.

I also saw "No Country for Old Men." Like Jannie said...hard to recommend, but I'm not saying it was a bad movie. Gory, for sure.

I'm seeing "Enchanted" tomorrow with a friend. It looks cute, and I need a nice light movie right about now!

Really great suggestions in all those. I finally saw Mr. Brooks and loved it. Want to see Perfect Strangers and a bunch of others that were suggested. I've been tuned in to TCM and AMC lately. Seen lots of old really good ones but no Christmas movies yet. Will have to check the Ultimate Gift. Thanx

Thanks ya'll!!...I love TCM and went thru their monthly listing this morning online...the only prob was...it didn't jive with what was showing on our cable...i was all set to record a bunch of movies and couldn't find a one!

I can't wait to No Country For Old Men. Everyone I know who has seen it (besides people here) have said it's excellent. But yes, Cohen Brothers' films are always extremely gorey and filled with dark humor. Same as Fargo, Blood Simple, etc. I really want to see Into the Wild still, and the Beatles music one.
