Seen any good movies lately?

I'm in search of some good movies...seen any lately? I really need to pull out the Christmas movies I've taped over the years...that gets me in the spirit!

If you haven't seen "The Ultimate Gift" with James Garner...it's a good chick flick...

We went to see a few action movies lately...the second Pirates of the Carribean and Miami Vice. Both very very good. My girlfriend and I went out the other day and went to You, Me and Dupree. Not as good. Funny, silly and stupid but lighthearted and we enjoyed it. Today (Aug 6) was the first year wedding anniversary for my daughter and her husband. Since it is their 'paper' anniversary when we went to the movies I bought 2 extra tickets and presented them with those pieces of paper when they came into the theatre. We went to a 'chick flick', John Tucker Must Die. A silly, teenage girl movie. We thought it was definitely for teenage girls. But we (my DH and I and the anniversary couple) enjoyed it. murfy - Thanks! I love it, too, and basically stole it, so that's why it wasn't sold off with the bulk of our A&C things when we moved. Unfortunately, the current abode is an MCM home with lots of glass. L O T S of glass. Like, in the 19' x 50' great room that includes the kitchen, DR, LR and garden, there is exactly 30' of wall available for furniture placement. The rest of it has to float or be against glass. The poor costumer is stuck in an office for right now.

My almost 21-year-old daughter saw American Sniper a couple of weeks ago and loved it. She said that after the movie was over, the entire theater was deathly quiet. No one moved while all the credits rolled through. And then everyone left, as quiet as can be. She said you could hear a pin drop as everyone left. Respectful, I guess. And perhaps blown away by what these great heroes, all of our military people, actually went through over there . . . and here, afterwards as well. I'm anxious to see it, but as the mom of someone who served two tours in Afghanistan, I'm steeling myself as to how it will probably affect me. To me, every soldier is someone's beloved son, daughter, husband, wife or good friend. From what I hear, i'll need to wear waterproof mascara and bring along a lot of Kleenex.

When I am stuck inside which is most of the time, I am not a movie watcher. I find a lot of other things to do that I enjoy. I don't recall the last time I did watch a movie. Glad you did enjoy it. Sue

The last movie I saw in a theatre was No Country for Old Men. Engrossing but a terrible end. I can't recommend it. I mostly watch old stuff on TCM and TVLand. I love all the holiday movies, especially How the Grinch Stole Christmas. TV Land is showing old Christmas TV shows all day Saturday, like I Love Lucy and Andy of Mayberry.

Lifetime and Hallmark channels have both had a lot of Christmas movies on lately.

At the movies, my DD and I saw Enchanted last weekend and we both loved it. It's a really cute movie.

Saw Fred Clause a couple of weeks ago at the movies and me and the kids thought it was just okay. DH liked it a lot though.

I've been watching old movies checked out from the library, and I just watched "Secondhand Lions". It has that little boy from "The Sixth Sense", who is abandoned by his mother with his two eccentric uncles, played by Robert Duval and Michael Caine. It's so funny, and also very poignant. If you haven't seen it, it's great, and safe for kids over about 8, I'd say.

I also saw "No Country for Old Men." Like Jannie said...hard to recommend, but I'm not saying it was a bad movie. Gory, for sure.

I'm seeing "Enchanted" tomorrow with a friend. It looks cute, and I need a nice light movie right about now!

Really great suggestions in all those. I finally saw Mr. Brooks and loved it. Want to see Perfect Strangers and a bunch of others that were suggested. I've been tuned in to TCM and AMC lately. Seen lots of old really good ones but no Christmas movies yet. Will have to check the Ultimate Gift. Thanx

Even if you aren't a football fan you will like "We Are Marshall" It's a true story with a feel good ending.

Thanks ya'll!!...I love TCM and went thru their monthly listing this morning online...the only prob was...it didn't jive with what was showing on our cable...i was all set to record a bunch of movies and couldn't find a one!

I can't wait to No Country For Old Men. Everyone I know who has seen it (besides people here) have said it's excellent. But yes, Cohen Brothers' films are always extremely gorey and filled with dark humor. Same as Fargo, Blood Simple, etc. I really want to see Into the Wild still, and the Beatles music one.
