The pleasure of an actual book in hand....

Recently I read an article about why many people refuse to read using Kindle or other such wonders.

It suggested that there is more to it than just an aversion to technology.

Apparently there is a very important aspect , psychologically, to holding a book and feeling it's weight when reading. The smell of the paper, the sound of the turning page, the experience of the printed word on paper all combine to make reading in this manner a very specific pleasure.

Additionally most people said that they much preferred a hardcover rather than a paperback because of the feel while reading.

However, one person cited the cleanliness of e-books as a big attraction. They didn't like the idea that printed books held so many germs of others !

I imagine that if you are the slightest bit allergic, an e-book would be perfect...no smell of smoker's residue, mustiness, print , bindings etc.

Personally, I would choose a hardcover, preferably old.......hands down.
