Hm. Thoughts of splashing it all over ME, so that I smell like a book....How would that be to one's advantage? Would a string of book-lovers follow one down the street? Does one want that.....? I'll keep thinking......

I have to say though, Martin, for the work I do - dramatisations - ebooks are invaluable. Any book I'm up for dramatising, I get on kindle if I can. And I've got kindle on my iphone now, so if at a loss for an hour or two, waiting around for things or in the pub with no-one to talk to, I read - work. But if I'm actually writing a dramatisation, then I need the original in book form so that I can desecrate it by writing all over it (and so that I can flick back and fore, of course).

I love it! Maybe that IS what the Kindle is missing ...

Now that's funny. Which reminds of the article I recently read about the "new car smell" that everyone seems to love. It's actually created by the off-gassing from the vinyl seats and armrests and all the other chemicals in the products that go into manufacturing a car. Yikes!

I'm sure the 'fragrance' makers could go one step further and introduce a range of perfumes that describe the subject of the book by smell, thus doing away with the Dewey System bookshops and libraries now use.
So for eg books on gardening would be defined by the scent of flowers, those on travel by sea-spray/ozone/exotic spices, farming/animal-lovers/big game hunters by the heady pong of manure, sports books by the whiff of the locker-room, romances by the traditional perfumes. Recipe/cookery books would need a sub-section depending on whether they were about bread-making/soups/desserts . . . and for genuine bibliophiles there would be that rather musty smell of slightly mildewed old leather.
