Silly question for e-reader users-

What do you call it? Your book? Reader, thing, gizmo, gadget? lol

I just got a Sony e-reader and if I put it down and then start looking for it, I feel awkward calling it a book and if I do, my husband starts looking around for an actual book.

I'm not really one for naming inanimate objects but I'm going to have to come up with something because this feels weird.

I TOLD you it was a silly question!

I name mine my Pandigital is ANDI for obvious reasons.
My sylvania is sylvia. My lookbook is I can not reacall if I named it or not but my husband has one exactly like it so I have put a pink band around the cover so we can spot the difference easily.
In some of the post on computer help others have mentioned the names for theirs.

My friend named her Kindle Ken.

by the way anyone with Kindles I was just at Tuesday Morning and they had some fabulous deals on leather covers I bought one in hot pink for $14 I am giving it to my sister for hers. Unfortunately none they had would fit my sylvania which is the only one I have that would need one.
They also had the type that actually hook in to the side of the Kindle like the original ones did. They are by M-Edge.

Other than that in general I call them my Readers

I just call it my Kindle.

I've been thinking about this a little after my original contribution. I still stand by the post. If you are greatly concerned about password hijacking why not just handwrite the passwords and store them however you wish. There is no band of marauders going up and down the street breaking into homes stealing passwords. The key would be to identify to what they belong to, but do not include any user names or account numbers with the passwords. Sites readily have the policy of sending your user name to your registered e-mail address if you forget. A forgotten password concern varies from site to site with different approaches. I share with you now that I have all my passwords, two pages worth, in a binder here on my computer desk. The non-financial even include the user names. I haven't lost a night's sleep over it yet. Mikie, I agree whole heartedly with you. Security and the steps you take to protect yourself are important. However, I do get a little tired of the " big brother" and the "sky is falling" mentalities. DA

Tricia, my KF will read portrait and landscape style. The cover I have makes it look like a book with a semi hard cover, and the KF just slides into a slot/pocket in the cover, and as you fold the cover you can either hold it like a book or turn the cover into the stand. I've only had it a little over a week, but really like it. Do make sure you buy the correct cover for the kindle (or any ereader) that you buy, as they are NOT universal. Definitely go to Best Buy and check out all of them, not just the various kindles. I'm sure you will enjoy it! Sending good wishes for the desired results of your dr's confrence call. Tami

yes Casi the pandigital takes the epub format it can not read the kindle format unless of course you have installed the kindle android app onto the pandigital. anytime you get any book from amazon you have to use your amazon account so you have to be logged into your amazon account that is what it is asking for , even though the book is free it will go through the transaction just like you are buying it but the price will be zero, they will also email you to your associated email and provide the "bill" copy. You can use a program like calibre to change the format from kindle to epub and use it that way. Many times barnes and noble have the same free books as amazon but they are already in epub format.

wow sorry I had never seen that I was asked a question and never answered it. I bought my pandigital novel at bed bath and beyond they can be bought at many locations which are listed on their website including Radio Shack and Kohl's. Mine ran me right at $100 with their 20% off coupon and a rebate. The one I have is the 7" white tablet. It is a full android tablet now with their latest update so you can access apps from the android market, you can surf, email, play your music, watch videos, youtube etc, pretty much everything you can do on a laptop. If you are familiar with any of the android phones it is very similar. I thought if I was going to pay over a hundred dollars for something I wanted it to do as much as possible not just be an ereader which is why I went with this PDN. The ereader part is excellent also and since you can now use android apps you can use the kindle app to read kindle books and the nook app, lots of ereader apps are available so you can choose the one you like best gives you lots of flexibility. It of course does have wifi connectivity which works great. We have had several very long threads about the PDN and ereaders over on the computer help forum, you can search the topic there and find much more. There are a lot of people on GW that got Pandigitals too. the lookbook reader I got at CVS pharmacy when they had them on for $49 it only does ereader functions and does color and have wifi and is linked with the kobo bookstore. http://www.pandigital.net/

Same as Monica, just call it my Kindle. :) Why don't you call your's Sunny you know like the song "Sunny, I think you for the sunshine and rain." :D

Do you name your TV? Or your cell phone? I've never heard anyone call them anything but their brand name (Kindle, Nook, or whatever), as in, "Would you hand me my Kindle, honey?".

Just call in "Nook" and have a bright pink cover for it to make it easier to find.

rhizo_1- As I said in my original post, I am not one for naming inanimate objects, so no, my TV and cell phone and car, etc, do not have names. Neither does my e-reader. It doesn't even have a "brand name" and that is part of the problem. It's not an Amazon Kindle or a Barnes and Noble Nook, it's a Sony PRS-T1. "Would you hand me my PRS-T1, honey?" Not very catchy or simple.

I guess I could refer to it as "Pressed 1". Or maybe just "English" for short. *snork*

DH and I are still using our Kobo Lookbooks. That's what we call them, our Lookbooks.

BTW, I just finished reading a library E-book that I really enjoyed. It's "Rules of Civility" by Amor Towles.

Now that Kindle permits libary books and I've mastered downloading them, I may look at a six-ounce Kindle. The Lookbooks are a bit heavy. Hard to keep up with all the price drops on these gadgets.
