Latitude really doesn't have that much bearing on hardiness zones, at least with regards to the continental US and Canada......the actual geography is much more of a factor - bodies of water, topography, ocean currents, etc. I am much further north than either of you (latitude 47.62N) and yet I am in a much higher hardiness zone (8b). In fact, Seattle is located further north than any other major US city in the continental US. But I and much of the rest of the Pacific Northwest benefit from a maritime climate due to proximity to the Pacific Ocean, Puget Sound and shelter between two mountain ranges which produces a very moderating effect on weather - it's never very hot in summer or extremely cold in winter

I planted all of my pepper seeds on March 3. They are in my basement which is around 60F so I put the starter trays on heating pads. So far, the ones that are up are eggplant, Big Jims, Hungarian Wax, Chimayos(Thanks Byron), Manzanos, Poblanos, Billy Bikers, Burpees Hot Mixture and a mixture from Beth at Peppermania. They are now under lights and I've already potted up the eggplant and Billy Bikers. The eggplant won the prize for being 1st. The ones that have not yet sprouted are Sandias and California Wonders. This doesn't surprise me since I remember them taking longer to germinate in previous years. John A

I have two bhut jalokias and one naga dorsett growing, that I started on 2-1, and are already flowering - indoors, under HPS. The BJs are larger, but not by much, and the ND is the first one to have flowers that opened. Still have no idea when they will produce and ripen, but I started them very early, so I won't have to wait until Oct.! And I have a guy at work who is going to be the first to try them, that eats my gold bullets and makes comments like "I thought that was a gold bullet, not a cold bullet!" The red savinas definitely aren't what they used to be, and the testing confirmed my "unscientific" testing, though they used to be much hotter. One chocolate variety got him pretty well, but still wasn't what the RSs were years ago. I am hoping these will call his bluff... Here are the photos of their growth. It is strange, in that both loose many lower leaves, then where the leaves were, another stem is beginning to grow. Vikingkirkin, your list looks very similar to mine, well except for the Serrano and Cayenne, which are probably too hot for my family. I looked up that Pusztagold, and it looks very similar to the Giant Szegedi, both of which Gourmet Seed Int'l. carries.
