I live not far from Brisbane, in a townhouse with a very small garden. All the plants in the garden are herbs, and now I'm looking to find Australian edible plants suitable for a small area.

I'm look for perhaps 3 different small trees - growing no more than 3-4 metres tall, which produce ready-to-eat fruit. My first idea was a jaboticaba, but that isn't an Aussie, is it?

I'd be happy with a small, neat acacia which produces edible seeds.

Two of the plants will be in full sun in a very narrow area, and will need to be able to tolerate almost total neglect, and rely on rainfall for water.

The third tree will be mostly in dappled shade, especially in winter, but will get some sun in summer. It will be very close to my neighbour's clothes line, so needs to be of a tidy disposition.

I'd also like suggestions for a small shrub which will tolerate shade all year round.

Any other suggestions for a small garden would be greatly appreciated - especially edible ones, though medicinal ones would also fit my 'herb' theme. If they can be potted, that would be good, too.
