Notice the fasteners integral with the body of the furniture appear to be pop rivets. Those to the doors, brass screws. A homeowner replacing old brass with modern hinges wouldn't be likely to use two different kinds of fasteners to put in one new hinge. However, that would make the doors easily removeable for shipping and reassembly, or allow it to move down an assembly line faster and leave the screw insertion to the worker installing the doors. I suspect these are factory installed and don't appear on true vintage furniture. I also side with modern 'Mexican Rustic'. Are the shelves veneered or laminated? That's another thing to look at. In modern repros of old furniture, sometimes shelves are, to cover the use of particle board construction.

That said, sanding, which can be a lot of work, will eliminate the other steps. Put a straight edge on the deck and see how much material you will have to take off, to get the deck flat. If it is too much, use a small orbital sander to get into the areas that the larger sander will not get. If you can pull loose nails, and replace them with screws, that would be a good thing. That will also give you a idea of the condition of the floor joists. If the screws will not hold, that probably means the joists are rotten on the top. Thanks. My husband got the top layer of the linoleum off and is going to rent a heavy duty sander to remove the paper backing to take it down to the sub flooring which is in good shape. Our floor installer said that was all we needed to do and he would take care of the rest getting it ready for new flooring, which is IVC Moduelo Embellished Vinyl.

It looks like yellow pibe to me, but could also be hemlock. Either way i dont think you will be able to stain that wood. Staining requires flawless sanding and that staircase would be impossible to get flawlessly sanded. Any sanding swirls you have, and cannot even see, will show up with stain like a becon in the night. Even then, the grain of the wood will be very very blotchy. I think paint would look the best.
