Help in identifying style/year of old Armoirs

Hello

I am looking for some help in identifying where this furniture originated. It looks spanish or mexican? It has been in my family for 30 years and were told at that time that it was mexican antique. Any help is very much appreciated. I try to upload more pictures.

Not the best pix to ID from but I think it's some kind of Epiphyllum. Has it ever bloomed for your Mom? Big blooms, fragrant which open at night? (I think) This is a tropical plant, not fragile at all, don't be afraid to cut it back in Spring, it'll grow back well. Let's see what others say, but that's what I think it is. I don't really grow this, so can't speak to its care, but am guessing medium to bright light (not direct sunlight), more thru a sheer curtain if you can & a fair amount of water in the warmer months. Can your Mom share w/ you her info. on care for this plant? From the look of yours, it's doing fine.

Susan. 74..hey you're still a young chick..:) TKR, you've got it. You must have ESP, lol. Truthfully, I firmly believe it's more of an insurance issue than age. As soon as one of three MRI's were diagnosed, my doc said it was kneed'ed, lol, pun intended, even if corny. The specialist agreed. Suddenly, I'm too young... I had two, unsuccessful surgeries, 'not TKR, however, the same area,' 2000 and 2010. Don't plan on a third. After the doc gave me the news, I asked if there were other options. His reply, 'yep, live on pain meds!' He wasn't the first doc who came to this conclusion. When is your surgery scheduled? Have you done research? All I can say is prepare for horizontal hobbies. Seriously. Since you enjoy reading, stock up on books. Writing, keep several note-pads, paper, pencils, markers, and a laptop handy. Sewing/knitting, whatever..keep items nearby. I've read some people are ordered to total bedrest, as long as 10 months! For me, lying in bed for one-month is impossible. Not with 4 birds, 2 dogs, and 350-400 plants. 'My son is grown, Susan..no other children.' My BIL had TKR done last year..he said he never felt better, wish it was done sooner. I wish you the best of luck and good health. You'll be in my prayers. No inclination or time. Besides, I cannot tolerate rejection...after opening an envelope, unfolding a clean, type-written sheet of paper, then reading, 'Thank You, but,' I gave up. Don't get me wrong. I have plenty ideas, 'but,' :) Susan, after all you've accomplished, your foot is in the door..now all you have to do is open, and step inside. A novel is nothing more than several short stories blended together. A bunch of adjectives, nouns, pronouns, etc... :) Who knows, after surgery you might conjure the perfect, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven King, or Grimms'. You wouldn't feel comfortable in my house since you're a minimalist in decor..lol. The only rooms without plants..a back bathroom...reason, no window..bird room, reason, birds like munching greens, and closets, obvious reasons. It's funny you said your 28-yr-old friend is a virture, regarding your book. Lately, several authors mention and describe numerous plants unrelated to the story. Have you read Wendy Staub, Nora Roberts, Lisa Jackson or Sue Grafton? If you enjoy mystery/suspense, you'll like the above authors. Of all four, Staub really gets into plants. Over the years, a few people have been to GW inquiring plant info. Said they wanted to learn, add to their MS. Wonder if these people were published.. Help identify old style bathroom faucet (all pipes come out)

My condo was built in 1987 and I can't for life of me find replacement fixtures. My tub/shower has the following: 1 hot/1 cold pipe coming out. These are attached to the typical tub knobs but they are connected, there is a central shower pipe that goes back into the wall (and comes out on top shower head). This pipe is dead center in between the 2 knobs and its fixed. This is different because typically what I see is that the shower/tub switch is somewhere inside the wall but mine is external on the faucet and then it goes back into wall. Now typically these would have a free hose type shower where the water is diverted at the bath faucet but mine is hard wired to go straight back into the wall. Is there any hope in finding replacement hardware or do I need to re-plumb my bathroom? Any places online that might sell this hardware? What's it called? And I'm not interested in repairing seals, this hardware is plain ugly. Thank you for help

Looks like so much of the over the top Mediterranean/ Spanish type furniture that was all the rage back in the late 60’s -70’s! These piece were very heavy, some very fanciful and had all kinds of unique finishes on them! They had lots of applied molding and and in lots of cases huge hardware! There are lots of these still out there in all their strange and wonderful forms! Some are very well built like this, others have molded plastic detail! They paint up well and can look great and enjoy a whole new life!

Very typical of modern Mexican "rustic" furniture. I doubt it's antique, and I doubt it's more than 31 years old.

Do you have a picture of the inside of the piece, the hinges, and the inside of one of the doors?

Hi lazygardens...thanks for your reply & input. I attached additional pictures of hinges and door.
I really thought the pieces were older. We got them about 30 years ago & they already looked 'old'. Thanks again for your help.

People often make the mistake of confusing "crudely hand made" with really old.
There are many very fine, refined, precisely made pieces of antique furniture dating for, 1750....and there are also many roughly hand made things made 30 to 50 years ago.
The hinges on your piece are modern. Not to say they couldn't be replacements, but I think Lazy is right about the age.

There are shops in the Dallas area that import furniture and large outdoor lighting and pottery from Mexico. Much of the furniture could be classified as rustic. Perhaps that is the charm of this furniture.

Notice the fasteners integral with the body of the furniture appear to be pop rivets. Those to the doors, brass screws. A homeowner replacing old brass with modern hinges wouldn't be likely to use two different kinds of fasteners to put in one new hinge. However, that would make the doors easily removeable for shipping and reassembly, or allow it to move down an assembly line faster and leave the screw insertion to the worker installing the doors. I suspect these are factory installed and don't appear on true vintage furniture. I also side with modern 'Mexican Rustic'. Are the shelves veneered or laminated? That's another thing to look at. In modern repros of old furniture, sometimes shelves are, to cover the use of particle board construction.

The hinges have 2 different screw styles. One pair is ordinary flat head wood screws that have been in use for many years. The other pair has a square socket heads. I've seen these used on wood boats, namely, Peterborough of Canada. I think the round head screws is a misapplication. I can't tell because the screw heads are covering the hinge holes. If the hinge holes are countersunk, then the round head screws are misapplied.

A round head in a hinge of this type may interfere when the hinge is closed. The owner may have 'gotten by' by luck with this repair. The heads may have been small enough with allowance in the hinge to have have cleared the heads. The wood behind this hinge half has cracked or split and may have been repaired by gluing.
