fruit trees in Brisbane

I have one more spot left in my garden for a fruit tree. What grows well in Brisbane? I already have mango, avocado, lychee, macadamia, lime (I think) and a few tropicals. I have heavy clay soil, but it is on a slope (well drained).

I have a fig tree that is doing very poorly. It only gets a few leaves each summer and they get eaten. It had three fruit this summer but they went missing too.

I planted Tropical Nectarine "Sundowner" nearly 2 years ago, its growing ok so if you can keep the fruit fly away they are a nice eating fruit. I pulled the Honey Murcott Mandarine out as they grew like little bullets, and if the Navelina Navel Orange does not produce fruit this year its going too..
I have clay soil also so my trees are all in raised beds...MM.

mulberry? banana? citrus? pawpaw? olive? what is your favourite fruit - plant that.

or go for something more exotic - chocolate pudding fruit, sweetsop, soursop, custard apple, carambola, cashew.... I've even got theobroma cacao growing just a hundred kms north of brisbane...no gurantee that will fruit, but it's fun trying

Hi all, When I started my mini orchard, I also went after trees that were as close to bearing age as I could afford. I order 2 five gallon persimmon trees from buyplantsonline in January of this year, one tree produce about five persimmons and the other tree never really leaf out but John replaced it at no cost to me (great customer service too) unlike other places that ask you to pay the shipping for a replacement. I also ordered several trees from Bay Laurel this year, the nursery employee said they would produce some fruit in 2012 and the crop would increase each year thereafter. Three of the BL trees flowered this summer but no fruit formed. Also another member on this forum has posted that his trees from Bay Laurel (I think he said they were from BL) fruited in their second leaf. Baylaurels trees cost much less, but I'm very happy with all the trees. Goodluck

Your photos first brought to my mind Melaleuca incana. The reddish stems and slightly broader leaves made me think the id might not be quite right. I just went out and checked my M. i. (prostrate form), and the new growth has the same stem color as is shown in your photos. I don't know if the different form could be the difference with the leaves. In Southern California we do not have nearly as many melaleuca choices as there are in Australia, so it may be a different species that I have not encountered. But maybe the melaleuca group could be worth a look.

I'm thinking about planting a lemon in an existing in ground pot and shaping it into a ball. The pot is 880mm in diameter, with a depth of 280mm. I can cut the bottom of the pot out for the roots to grow through as I'm concerned it may become root bound. Looking at keeping the tree less than 2 metres tall. Can anyone recommend a lemon species that would be best for this application. Thanks

I would leave 1 fruit for every 20 leaves. You can thin it when the fruit is the size of a pea.

I have mulberry, soursop, lime, pawpaw. I think bananas would be a good addition. I also considered an olive but I don't know what to do with the fruit. Also, would it be too wet for olives in Brisbane (once this drought breaks)?
