rosecanadian I love your pics. of Eisvogel and Anuschka above. A friend nearby in my zone 5 said Eisvogel is winter hardy for her. Another zone 4 said Sweet Madame Blue is winter hardy, same with purple Thierry Marx. Own root La Reine was stingy in its 1st year, but it improves later on. My La Reine is over a decade old, with a massive spring flush and fast repeats. Its scent improves as it ages with stronger roots for nutrients uptake: I find new things to solve the Abraham Darby and Evelyn confusion. Abe. was bred from Aloha and Yellow Cushion in 1985. That was the OLD ABE. that I saw at rose park in 2011 with apricot blooms, upright & stiff and columnar bush about 4 feet tall. Those old abe. had HUGE TRUNK, very old bushes. But blooms were tiny and shaped like a dahlia, with VERY SHARP citrus scent. That old abe is DIFFERENT from my current Abe of lanky & tall growth and LARGER bloom with many petals. Yellow Cushion is a floribunda and NOT zone 5 winter hardy, plus it's a short bush. Evelyn was bred in 1991 from Graham Thomas and Tamora. I have the short shrub Evelyn as stated in 1993 David Austin book at 3' x 3' and blooms more than grows. Evelyn has better scent than Abe. when dunk in the vase since Evelyn's other parent is Tamora. I saw Tamora frequently at nearby rose park and it's very prickly like Evelyn, plus Tamora is a constant bloomer. The confusion starts when David Austin bred Graham Thomas climber with Aloha to create new Abe. Graham Thomas is healthier as a parent than Yellow Cushion. New Abe. improves in health, plus more petals, and with blooms similar to Evelyn since it also has Graham Thomas as its parent. I grow Aloha and it's tiny in zone 5 at 2' x 1.5'. It has glossy leaves like Abe. and with odd green apple & citrus scent. Aloha has a long pause between 3 flushes. Using Graham Thomas instead of Yellow Cushion Floribunda is what makes NEW ABE looking like Evelyn. I still see Aloha's traits of glossy leaves & upright growth in Abe, and Aloha's unique scent shows through Abe. when dunk in the vase. Below is Aloha in my garden, very dark green and round leaves just like its offspring Abraham Darby.

ann beck 8a ruralish WA How does your soil look like, being high in iron? The top layer of my soil is black and rock hard clay, but the lowest layer is lighter color clay (orangish), and red roses do well here. Red roses like Double Delight & Munstead Wood both have a higher need for iron. I check the web, and it stated: "The most distinctive characteristic of an iron-rich soil is a ruddy orange or red color, though not all red soils are rich in iron. When the iron deposits in the soil oxidize, they turn a distinctive rust color that tints the soil red. " In early summer when the stems of cut-blooms are softer, they wilt easily if I use acidic rain. My cut-blooms always last longer in my alkaline tap water at pH 9, rather than acidic rain water. My tap water leaves whitish calcium and hard magnesium deposits on pots. We have hard well water, and our soil is high in dolomitic rocks (calcium plus magnesium). In the fall when the stems are harder, cut blooms can tolerate acidic rain water better with less wilting. Below are some recent cut blooms this Sept. 2022. Dark red are Munstead Wood, it's a constant bloomer as 8th-year own root, light pink is Princess Charlene d. Monaco (4th-year own-root), and whites are 12th-year own-root Mary Magdalene, lowest ruffled pink are Augusta Luis: The Dark Lady (red), Tchaikosky (light yellow), and Sweet Mademoiselle (salmon) are heavy bloomers this Sept. Tchaikosky is 4.5" across and Sweet M is 4". They are fertilized with biochar at pH 8.6 which supplies calcium and potassium for large blooms.

Jemma Z10Socal Your leaves and "dumpling blooms" match with St. Swithun (also myrrh scent). St. Swithun is more buttonhole than Strawberryhill. It's also a climber like Strawberry Hill, but the repeat of St. Swithun is NOT as good as Strawberry Hill. See the link: 'St. Swithun ™' rose photos (helpmefind.com) It's easy for nurseries to sell mislabeled "Evelyn" since Evelyn is the SLOWEST to bloom as a tiny rooting. Abraham Darby blooms at least 2 months sooner than Evelyn as a tiny rooting. A friend bought Evelyn as band-size own root from A Reverence for Roses in May, and now in August it HAS NOT bloomed yet. Below is my tiny rooting of Abraham Darby with 2 buds formed. Note the well-rounded shape (as stated by David Austin catalog), more branching than Evelyn, and the 2 buds are on SHORTER stems. Abe.'s leaves are rounder and DARKER-GREEN than Evelyn: Below is GALLON size rooting of my Evelyn, note it throws LONG OCTOPUS canes but with zero blooms to identify the plant. Note the reddish young thorns and paler leaves: Below are 1st blooms of Abraham Darby rooting. Note the CRINKLED petals and LESS petals (70 petals and SHARP fruity scent as stated by David Austin). The scent is SHARP grapefruit & melon and it stinks up when aged in the vase. Below was Evelyn's st bloom as a band-size rooting .. I had to water it daily plus lots of Osmocote to force it to bloom in November. This was back in 2014 when I DID NOT grow Abraham Darby, so it's 100% Evelyn. Note the MANY PETALS (100 petals) smoothly arranged in circular form, also exposed stamens but with sweet peaches and old rose scent. This rooting was in partial shade, and Evelyn DOES NOT like partial shade like Abraham Darby. Jemma: I glanced at Rose forum and found your posts with your cute dogs and such pretty flowers. Houzz is frequented by VERY FEW people, and I post in Organic Rose forum AS A REFERENCE when people google for info., rather than for popularity. In Facebook, someone stole my Evelyn picture (bush-shot) to post in another group. She got 78 likes in one hour, until I protested & reported such plagiarism and the administrator stepped in to delete that post. A Facebook post can get 200 to 1K likes, but the post CANNOT be googled. But when I google for a rose name, such as "Evelyn" or "Abraham Darby", old posts in Houzz showed up, or HMF info. also show up. Any pics. I post in Houzz CANNOT BE COPIED nor STOLEN like in Facebook. Any pics. I post in HMF has the "HMF sign" so someone else can't claim it as his/her pic. either.

If you look on ebay there are some VERY similar vases, tho you don't say how large yours are. I would look at the similar ones and compare the signage/signatures...maybe you'll find something that way.
