Just had a look at my kitchen sink and wish it looked as wonderful as yours does.
I can only dream of having that many roses ready to pick and display.
They are all so beautiful.

Thanks. Yes, it is a staghorn fern - just a small one. Big ones are common around here. Your gardens look great too. I enjoys seeing your photos on there. I used to live in MN and can appreciate gardening in that region. Now, after recovering from a rollercoaster winter (temps in the 80s for weeks followed by 17 F, then more 80s and then 19 F, more 80s...now tonight looks like a freeze!! I am so frustrated that the new growth on alot of stuff may be toast.

Sure thing Mike. Yesterday in the late evening after a lot of maintenance, work and watering, I realized I wasn't spending enough time enjoying my plants. This morning I took a leisurely stroll and a handful of pics. I've included 5 'indespensible conifers', 5 that I think all collectors should really own and then another ten that currently sit high on my own list. It will undoubtably change over time and as my plants acquire more character. First, five conifers to plant instead of the dreaded 'Lowe's' conifers(arborvitae, picea pungens 'glauca', etc.): Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns'. Hands down the most interesting, graceful, stately conifers for sale. Not readily available in larger sizes, hopefully this changes as few conifers create such a statement. Only gets better with age. This. particular specimen is growing quite irregularly at an early age. Picea abies 'Gold Drift' and 'The Blues'. This is sort of cheating, two conifers in one. Both are strong weepers and grow about the same rate. The combination of colors simply demanded this sort of marriage. Pinus contorta 'Chief Joseph'. Wonderfully compact and of course, the brightest, best looking gold from about November to April. Picea mariana 'Aureovarigata'. A simply beautiful, large conifer. Three colored effect. Picea engelmannii 'Bush's Lace'. A phenominally beautiful, slightly weeping conifer simply makes most upright blue spruces obsolete. And Ten that really caught my eye or already had my eye. Abies procera 'Blaue Hexe'. A stunningly blue small dwarf. I love it. Pice orientalis 'Iseli Seedling'. Super form and color, even in a lot of sun. Picea sitchensis 'Thomas'. A tiny mound of great colors, especially with new growth. Picea pungens 'Wisconsin Cream'. Great color contrast between old and new growth. Normal habit is of the medium dwarf upright type - a compact wide cone. Picea orientalis 'Nutans'. Great character, this one should be fun to watch. Abies vejari. A rare fir from Mexico, it has stunning new *and* old growth. The new growth borders on teal or aqua-marine. It's the most interesting color in a conifer I have seen. Apparently has great cones as well. Cedrus libani 'Hedgehog'. A cool little hedgehog, small dwarf with huge needles and a very interesting mounding habit. Cedrus libani 'Green Knight'. Very nice color and usually grows irregularly. Great small dwarf. Picea omorika 'Peve Tijn' or 'Tijn'. Great golden/blue/green hues, handles full sun and forms a perfect upright form in great time. Hope you enjoyed! -Will

Thonotorose, I use a large area of my screen-greenhouse for the propagation of plants. I sometimes start seeds, buy seedlings, buy starter plants and grow them up in there. When I put in my pool I did it all myself and also made it into a large enough area for growing plants. The screened area is 50' by 40' and 15 feet high so it gives me plenty of room for my plants. If I get hot when working on the plants I take a dip, cool off, and go back to working on my plants. This picture shows the rows of tiered shelving of pots. It's my own little garden center. Lou

Nice plants! Liberty's always a winner. I'm really enjoying mine that I bought a couple of months ago. That epimedium is striking. I've never even heard of that. It shows to be good to go in my zone but it sure doesn't look like something that would do well anywhere close to this far south. We melt things in early June that look tougher than that! :)

Wish that was the only thing in my kitchen sink instead of the pile of dirty dishes that never seems to go away.

It would be lovely to have that many flowers to pick for the house, they are beautiful.

HI Michelle We have not heard from you for a while such a busy time of the year for most, just love your pics. My roses are resting at present, but the regrowth with new buds is amazing and I too will have heaps of new flowers soon ( I hope ).

I think your kitchen sink belongs in "Home Beautiful" or one of those mags, such a beautiful selection of roses, did you grow the tulips as well, if you did you are so lucky. Isn't it wonderful to have so many flowers in the garden. I gave my neighbour a basket full of roses and buds a couple of weeks ago and yesterday she gave me a bunch of double gerbera so I am very lucky too. I like that Mary Mc K could you post a close up one day when you have time Thanks....Cheers..MM.

Oh!!!How lovely to have such wonderful responses.
Thankyou so much everyone:))

Yes- I think the kitchen sink is a wonderful photo.

The garden seems to gone beserk after DH came back from the farm with bags of real cow manure.
It seems to have done the trick. Its as though they have been on steroids !!!!

MM I have been very busy with school breakups, concerts & Christmas funtions as we all are I guess.
The flowers in the vases were given to my daughter for her dancing. She is a beautiful dancer, especially her classical ballet. She will be studing dance for VCE next year while she is in Year 10.

I have included a pic of Mary McKillop .
Its a wonderful rose. The blooms last for at least 2 weeks on the bush and the colours are sensational. This is a new rose for me this year and I have been thrilled with it. Very hardy.

The colour is beautiful in the way it changes to a paler ,subtle form of intense pink.I think it has a gentle perfume(I can't remember!!)I'll follow this up when I get outside and post a reply.
