This little fellow/girl on the way down the back, To see something. About time they all came back.

I was on my way to pick my very first nectarine. Ok its only a nectarine you say.

But to me it has been two years of stress and hard work and worry keeping all the insects off.

Quite a feat up here and I was very surprised to find the dreaded fruit fly didn't get it last year they did.

And it was delicious sweet and juicy I ate it for lunch and there are still a few more..

They say if you have big Lizards like that you don't have snakes,I have a Nectarine but never get fruit the birds take them when not ripe yet,Camp David looks nice to me.

Hi MM lovely pics. love that camp david, I think it might be a bearded dragon but could be very wrong, we also have fruit on our trees we don't have fruit fly here but we had a covering ceramony every frosty night or else we would have no fruit at all, as it is we have grapes all the berries stone fruit & apples we just hope we don't get anymore frost as we have in the past.

tradergordo: There is another thread running right nearby here somewhere, in which Scott suggests rolling up two ends of the footie and tying it right over the branch or twig with a square knot. Harvesting will require a sharp pocket knife to get these things off. I tried Scott's method, and very much prefer it to stapling, which I found awkward and ineffective at giving me a good seal around the "stem", if you can call it that on a peach. My footies came from Store Supply Warehouse, in Harrisburg, PA, and they were very reasonably priced, even with shipping. It's cheaper to buy several boxes rather than just one, since shipping and handling remains the same. I am looking at my footie box right now, and see their phone number is 1-800-823-8887. When I called them and gave them my credit card number, the footies were somehow here the next day. I don't know how you would compare labor input of footie installation with use of Surround. Footies are tedious to install, but when it's over, it's over. One of the principal reasons I bag fruit is to avoid having to lug the sprayer around eight or more times a season. To me, elimination of pesticide use is a nice bonus. Once installed, the footies are quite unobtrusive on the trees; much less so than plastic or the ghostly white of Surround. With the Scott footie-tying method, I am even going to try covering the nectarines, which are nearly impossible to do with plastic. Never actually grew a ripe nectarine here yet. Patricia, Glorie de Dijon - Died this winter. 3 years old. Was in too much shade, but I had read that this was a rose that could tolerate some shade. It never was a strong rose, but I wasn't expecting it to die. Beautiful blooms. I want another one of these. Love that fleshy color. Rev d Or - Lived for 2 years. Grew by leaps and bounds, then one spring it leafed out and then died before blooming. I look at my roses often and the death was very sudden. One day it looked bad, within a couple of days after that it was dead. I think this happened last spring. Bouquet d Or - Bought from ARE, so it was a 2 or 3 gallon rose. I think it was bought and planted in the early fall. It didn't grow much and was dead within a year (maybe a half a year). This was 2 or 3 years ago. I also lost Sombruil the climber. It lived for 3 years then started dying back this past winter. I kind of thought it would come back from the ground this year, but no such luck. I hope this helps. I've lost some HTs to the creeping die back crud, but some of these OGRs were kind of sudden. I've got other noisettes in the same area: Jaune Desprez, MAC, and others whose names I can't remember, but they are all very much alive. .... so far.

I have two Oklahomas which I've had for three years now. I both love them and hate them. The fragrance is amazing, the blooms are huge and velvety, and when they are young they are a lovely red to burgundy color. However, the blooms fade VERY quickly into that terrible magenta, they also don't last long in general, so they are not a good cut flower. My plants also refuse to bush out, but rather grow tall, thick-stemmed and straight. The one in full sun is about six feet tall now. But they do seem to be vigorous for me anyway, and they bounce back quickly from heavy pruning (which I do prune them down in the winter because I don't want them to become enormous). The climate where I live is much cooler than where you are, but it does rain continuously for about 9 months out of the year, and the Oklahomas don't seem to mind it. They also seem to be blackspot resistant at least in my garden, even though neighboring plants have gotten blackspot. So there's pros and cons. Overall I like them enough that I won't get rid of them, but I do prefer the longer-lasting blooms on a bushier plant, and had I known more about Oklahoma before I planted them I probably would have chosen something else. Repeat bloom on mine is pretty quick though, as long as I keep up with cutting off spent flowers.

I think visual lines and weight are really coming into play in this space. I agree with the others that say the bench is too long for two reasons. 1. The visual line weight of the stairs is better balanced when the bench comes underneath of it to hold it up instead of the bench being over top of it offering no visual support to the stair line. This may be why the stair line bothers you visually stopping half way up the wall. I know that may sound weird, but everything in a room effects everything else in the room visually. 2. The bench being so long to me, just seems to extend and emphasize the visual long lines of the hallway only adding to the bowling ball effect. I think a shorter, smaller bench would visually balance the weight underneath the line of the stairs and give your eye a resting point instead of following the long lines all the way down the hall. I also thought you had the space to possibly do a small table or coat rack in a couple different spots on the other wall if you wanted instead to better balance the weight the wall with the stairs has. I think it would be really neat to do built in storage underneath the stairs but I know that's expensive and over the top to throw out as a suggestion. I know, I'm probably not helping.

Nice bearded dragon. We used to have lots, but since the damn scrub turkeys took over the local bushland and have scratched up all the undergrowth, the lizards seem to have dissapeared. the flowers all look good too, and congrats on the successful raising of your nectarine baby. :-)

Nice pics MM, especially the rose (but I am partial to them).
I know those lizards as Water Dragons.
There are heaps up at the Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens and they come right up onto the verandah where the coffee tables are.
I never know whether I should warn a person when one is near their feet, in case the person has a screaming fit. They don't hurt you but I guess if you accidently trod on one, it could probably give biting you a good go.

Lovely lizard, they get really quiet, we used to have them but the cat we had got rid of them and since the cat has gone I have only seen one, which is sad as they eat a lot of bugs and such.
Love all of your flowers.
I hope your shoulder is on the mend for you.

g'day mm,

yes Bearded Dragon Â ÂPogona BarbataÂ, i've got oodles of them around here but still a near heart stopper when you are scratching around in mulch and in among sweet potato vines and near grab one or you detect movement from corner of eye, we also have spotted tree monitors and water dragons but still got plenty of snakes to look out for after very mild winter people in rural or near rural should be aware and alert and keep the rodents in good control, they'll still come for the frogs though.

oh read something interesting the common named king brown snake is actually a mulga snake and first aid should be that of the black snake type as it is in the balck snake family not the brown snake family makes a difference in the anti-venine given.

It is a bearded dragon though water dragons are very similar they generally live around water and often jump into the water if frightened. I had a bearded dragon run up my leg a few years ago. I didn't see it as I walked past but the dog did so the lizard took off up the closest tree - my leg! I don't know who got the biggest fright. I also had an uncle who was thrown off a horse because the lizard was chased by a cattle dog up the horses leg. The lizards quieten down really well if you throw a bit of meat or grubs to them. Be careful though, a little boy lost the top of his finger after being bitten by a big one on the Sunshine Coast a few years ago. I didn't realise they had such big teeth but apparently big bearded dragons have very sharp teeth!

Thanks Barbara, Jan, Annie and every one so Bearded Dragon it is, I though it was but didn't want to put that name to it just in case it was wrong. We get a lot of them here on this block last year one had babies so there were little dragons running around everywhere, We also get the frilled neck and some type of monitor or goanna.

Thanks len for that info, you know the river is across the road but have yet to see a snake on this block.

Marion my arm is starting to feel a bit better but I cannot lift it much, so hubby is still putting the clothes on the line bless him.

Cheryl I have not seen a snail since we left Melbourne eleven years ago, but we have plenty of other pests to make up for it.

GH I have 23 Bougainvillea's I will put repeats on for you one day as last years were the best.I hope that nectarine keep bearing fuit too or it will get the chop.

And dear Bev I do hope you are feeling a lot better, I have just put more pics on for you.

Yuk, glad we don't have those either. I'm not very good at looking at those things, saw one once and thought it was a snake and nearly died. BUT, I did see a tiny little frog attached to my back fly wire door last night, first one I've seen for years. Beautiful photos.
Hope your arm gets better soon. (Nice to have a husband around isn't it? Come in useful for some things!!)

Hi MM! I love the photos you take...they are beautiful! We have lots of bearded dragons here. I never know what type they really are but they look pretty much like your photo so I will assume that is the name. I had not thought of it but I have not seen a snake or a snail in quite a while - not sorry about that!
