Can you suggest three popular roses please.

Need a little more info. What type of roses are you looking for? What colour. Here are a few of my favourites
Mothers Love - pink florabunda - very strong perfume and profuse bloomer.
Peace - Yellow/peach colour Hybrid Tea - Very pretty - not very strong perfume to my nose, but could just be me.
Mr. Lincoln - Red HT - beautiful long lasting flowers, good repeater - good perfume
Princess of Wales - White florabunda - no perfume - good repeat profuse bloomer.
Stainless Steel - Tall mauvy/greyey flower - good repeater and extremely good perfume.
Queen Elizabeth - Tall pink grandiflora - extremely good repeater - good perfume.
There are many many more. These are just my favourites, but I don't have a lot and so far, only have HTs and florabundas.

My favourite of the moment is Amber Nectar, a small growing and small flowering floribunda with masses of lovely amber coloured blooms that open as very beautiful tiny bids.
Another that does very well for me in the Vic Central Highlands is Blueberry Hill - it has a large semidouble flower in a mauve/bluish colour. It is also a floribunda.
My Fave Hybrid T is Just Joey, which I have a row of 8 standards, which have flowered all summer and Autumn. Large Apricot blooms. Fairly open in form.
Bonica is a pink floribunda that just puts out masses of bloom with little care.
Sally Holmes is another that constantly and heavily blooms.
None of these might suit you Nemo. They are MY favourites, and when you search on google for photos, you will discover that I like a fairly open rose, that shows you its stamens.

WOW! What beautiful pictures! Thanks everybody for sharing them. I was caught up in the fun of this, thinking of what rose flower I liked best, when I had a thought - most of the responses and pictures here focus on the beauty of the individual blooms. This is understandable, but it is also how 20th century hybridizers thought, and unfortunately it resulted in the development of: spindly upright ugly bushes; new roses with no fragrance whatever; & roses so disease prone that everybody had to spray poisons all over their gardens every 2 weeks! So, I would prefer a different definition of "beauty" - roses that are beautiful not only in their individual blossoms, but as an overall bush. Banksia lutea, as it bursts into bloom all over town, suddenly appearing all over large trees, and dripping down from on high, would certainly be my favorite. All of the teas are graceful shrubs if you have enough room for them, and also have gorgeous flowers. MAC is beautiful in my garden because it has climbed up several old plum & fig trees, and I can see blossoms from my bedroom window as I speak, seemingly floating all over the top of our fruit tree forrest. This has been going on non-stop since March! Ditto Cl Peace, which is now producing blossoms all over the top of a huge pomegranite bush - its third bloom flush so far this year. I have a dark red/purple many many petaled mystery rose that I found in our garden (from where it was growing inside of a Japanese quince bush, I would say it was planted at least in the 1930s) which I rooted & planted out by the street in the sun, right next to the sidewalk. It blooms for 10 months of the year, and is amazingly fragrant with that heady "old rose" fragrance. Our street is a busy street, as is the sidewalk. This rose is only about 4-5 feet tall, so the blossoms are very accessible to passer- byes who want to smell it. I enjoy watching people's reactions when I am near there weeding or whatever - it is truly a "beautiful" rose, as it startles people into a brief happiness! Jackie

Maureen, you are absolutely correct. This is what happens when I do GW early in the morning with out my glasses. My apologies for reading the title of this post as 'tree' instead of 'three'. Let's try this again: Olga's list of climbers is superb! I will also concur with Maureen's suggestion of White Cap. To this list, let me add Parade, Climbing Pinkie. Peggy Martin, though technically a rambler, is almost disease free for me, and it has scattered flowers on it almost year-round once established. Sorry, again, for the mistake. Connie

If You Could Have Only Three Roses to Design your Garden with..

(Since I just had a computer glitch and lost everything I wrote, let's see how much of the dream I can remember.) Ingrid, I was going to ask you "how big is this dream garden of mine?", but then I reread your post and saw that yours is your present garden, so I guess my dream garden has to fit in the space I have. When I gave you my choices, I didn't give you a plan, so here it is. Since my garden is in my small front yard, up close to and in front of my house, I can't very well have dozens of towering Tea rose bushes hiding the building. That would be silly and has been my dilemma from the beginning. So I need a "Special Small Garden in Two Parts" exemption to allow me to have a 4th rose. The dream garden plan would still be a circle in a circle, and in the center circle would be, of course, LeVesuve in all her big, bosomy pinkness. In place of the arbor at the top of the circle would be two Maman Cochets, the regal matriarchs of the garden. And in the rest of the outer circle planted en masse would be the 3rd rose in the front - Enchantress, a gorgeous magenta pink smaller Tea rose (supposed to be anyway). They would sweep up and around from the entrance at the curb to meet the Maman Cochets, bowing at their feet with arms raised in adoration. In the back garden I would need a climber because of all the oak trees I have that would want to participate in the dream. And that climber would be LeVesuve. (Oh, did that sound like a 5th rose? Nah.) The rest of the garden would be a maze of hedges of Anna Olivier and Maman Cochet, all neatly and softly clipped with no hard edges. I'm not sure if they would be mixed or all one color on each side of the path. In my dream garden Tea roses don't mind some trimming for beauty's sake. Hopefully, DH won't be too nauseated by this pastel pink and yellow dream. And then I would want more Enchantresses close to the house so we could see out the windows, right? In my dream garden there would be no north side of the house, and the west side would be just as good as the east side since there would be no BS in my garden and the setting sun is just as gentle as the morning sun. And there would be clay in the soil that would retain moisture and nutrients so all the rose bushes would have lots of beautiful green leaves to go with the flowers. In my dream garden the oak trees would not shade the roses - just the people. And no dream garden would be a true dream if the choice of roses could not be changed with the season. you cannot ever select plants from other people comments as everyone has different tastes with maples . someone might yeso nishiki but this variety may be someones least favourite . size is not an issue here. if you like it and have space dont worry about size. its nice to know of what people go for as their top three . Anyway beside that there has been a similar thread here asking what the famous 5 maples is. i have narrowed down to three . So dont be afraid to name your top three .

Seduction, Bonica and Just Joey are my favourites for now..

But with thousands out there it is hard to pick a favourite.

What grows good in one area may not grow to well in another.

I would be asking what roses grow best in my area first !!!

Then make a selection... Cheers ...MM.

My 3 favourites are: Rusticana a disease resistant long flowering heat tolerant rose. Never see it come up in the forum, but for hot conditions is excellent.
Apricot nectar although in my climate I have to spray regularly to keep it free from rust and hot chocolate again beacuse it does so well here and is disease resistant. It is hard to pick favourites because I love them all and they have many different characteristics.
