Carol, No I do not have Hermosa and had to look it up on HMF ( Shows that I am still a newbie regarding the antiques) Some of the images show a coloring similar to CRM. I have no room left so research, consider and maybe purchase is not an option:(. My suburban lot is not large, shy of 1/4 acre, and the footprint for our home and swimming pool takes up a lot of my gardening space in the backyard. Our prerequisite for the PDX area was 1/2 of an acre or more and a smaller home; especially with Heirloom being in the state:) Alameda, when you indicate that CRM is not a strong grower, what do you mean? In the past, I would identify roses that did not develop in the manner of their class, lacking foliage, keeping thin canes, or never achieving their appropriate size as weak growers. Mine is new so all I have to compare it to is rate of growth etc. Compared to other roses purchased as bands. I hope the two I have continue to perform well as I believe the coloring adds a little something extra to the roses and plants in the area. Lynn

I have become selective regarding roses. Borderline rose snob. I have never seen these 2 French roses in person. I solely ordered them based on online photos. Seil, my suburban garden is coming along nicely. I have learned alot on this forum, rose blogs, and visiting nurseries. Pictures in due time. The rose bands will ship in early June.

Not that anyone is still following this, but this was me (which.chick) and I still have Charles de Mills and he still blooms amazingly every year and I still love him. Mme. Plantier died some years back in a hard winter. I shovel-pruned Stanwell Perpetual because he just looked sad, year after year, and it was depressing. *sigh* Fantin Latour powdery mildews (it's very humid at my house) and does not bloom every year for me. Just... not doing well. I have a friend who's about 200 feet lower than me in elevation with better sun and I'm relocating Fantin there. I've waited long enough for him to settle in and it just isn't going to happen. But, Ispahan is trouble free, HUGE, and produces hundreds of flowers, every single year. (Probably would like a trellis of some sort, but doesn't have one. I have a 3' fence around the base and he sort of fountains out of that. I hack off about 6' a year before winter to keep the canes tidy.) Never sick. Never dies from freezing. Has good clean foliage ALL SUMMER. Just... big and strong grower. Two thumbs up for that. I couldn't source either of the Belles back then, but if I move Fantin Latour, I will try again this spring.

After all of your wonderful recommendations I thought I would go to a local nursery to see what's available. I am close enough to drive out to Annie's Annuals (an awesome online and "in person" nursery that is like walking in a botanical garden) on a Sunday so today I did. I went a little crazy and spent too much, but I am so excited about the companion plants I picked out for Archduke Charles! Here's some photos from Annie's Annuals since my plants are just brand new little teeny tiny babies. I can't grow chives because it's just too hot here for them to be happy, but I can grow native coyote mint. Check this out... So cute! I'm planning them near the row of Archduke Charles, but not underneath. I'm planning to use tansy and the purple carpet lemon thyme under Archduke Charles to help with pests while also looking unique, fabulous and smelling nice too.
