One of my last Charles de Gaulle's
Comments (9)Well, this is a first year rose that I purchased from Hortico. Some of you know, when you get roses from Hortico and open the package, you say, "What are these twigs?" For whatever reason, these roses flourish in my awful desert soil. Old Fragrance (now 3 years old) was 7 feet tall this season. Back to CDG, it had 10 blossoms this season with good repeat and okay fragrance. I expect a better scent next season but, this being the desert, roses smell nothing like they did when I lived on the East Coast. On the plus side, no BS here as there is little humidity. I would heartily recommend this rose if you want a stunning lavender....See MoreDifferent Days Of Charles de Gaulle.
Comments (2)Hi Inga and Thanks again.. I go out early every morning and squash them, blow them shake them and they come back. We are not permitted to use a hose actually we are not to use a hose out in the garden at all if we exceed 140 litres a day due to the drought we did have to buy a tank a few months ago but the distance the water has to be pumped is a long way so the pressure is not there and I don't want to waste precious water that way.. I do spray my 40 or so roses every week with a milk/water solution to stop black-spot and that kills a few hundred I wont spray with chemicals as I don't want to kill the good bugs or the little tiny frogs we have here they are so small only 2-3 cms (1 inch) long they are Litoria fallax Eastern dwarf tree frog here is a pic of one in my Bougainvillea. Don't you think they are so cute and certainly worth looking after.. Cheers...Misty...See MoreBuxom Beauty, Charles de Gaulle or (I wish) Claude Brasseur?

They also last very well in the vase and are very fragrant. Its very easily obtained too being one of the newer roses. I grow it in a container and it has performed very well for me in South Florida. It also its also disease resistant especially considering its parentage is Angle Face (which is a black spot magnet for me). I do spray, however roses that are very susceptible to disease still don't have a place in my garden as I only spray during the rainy season and otherwise they need to fend for themselves. I would confidently say this is an improved Angle Face but its blooms are much fuller and deeper in color. It seems however that it inherited all the best from Angel Face (very good bloom production, nice purple color (RA being even deeper purple) pretty frilly petals and fragrance, and none of the disease or few-petal-count-blooms that Angle Face produces....See MoreWhich to choose? Comments (14)ARghhhh--I shall be pulling my hair. I finally get this vision of how to beautify two separate beds--a touch of lovely lavender in each one--and now I can't get it all to come together to accomplish that goal! I have solved the Love Song problem. Thanks to Nanadoll's suggestion, I remembered that just across the state border, about 30 miles away, is a larger city that actually sells lots of roses at one of the nurseries. Haven't been there in years, but it is not that big of a journey to get there. So I called them--no, they don't have it on order for Spring, but they would be happy to order one for me and reserve it for me for spring--1/2 price if I get there before they finish potting up the spring roses. Hallelujah! So I've got a Love Song. Thank you, Nanadoll! They couldn't get me the hybrid tea I wanted however. So now the choice of a hybrid tea is either get Charles de Gaulle at Palatine (in which case I need 2 more roses to fill out the order--but I have no spot for them) OR order Velvet Fragrance, gal. size from Heirloom--IF they notify me that they get it in for spring 2016. Velvet Fragrance is red, so obviously I'd be going for a very different look in that case, but it was what I was thinking about before the sudden yearning for lavender hit me, so that should be OK--IF Heirloom decides to sell it. So now I'm wavering between Palatine lavender or Heirloom red--both of which pose some problems. I was really surprised that there weren't more places selling Charles de Gaulle or Velvet Fragrance. Anyway, I appreciate all the help everybody has been offering. : ) Kate...See MorenanadollZ7 SWIdaho
