Just heard this reviewed on radio and couldn't stop laughing - buying it today (no, I dont have shares or know the writer!. It's reminiscent of the Root letters.

Siobhan I think this is a must for you

I just had a look, Jankin (link 'brought to life' below for everyone else). The cover design is most off-putting!

I hadn'tnoticed the cover - very vulgar outside - belly laugh material inside. TR was (?still is)a script writer.
His sense of humour is very down to earth and anyone still wants belly laughs AND a;ternative takes on life for the over 50s I recommend his blog.

I adore subtle humour too but at this time of year (life) world affairs feel that this is hair letting down time.

They are perennial as long as the rhizome/root doesn't freeze or rot and turn mushy. I know they are hardy to zone 9a outdoors in a pot. I am in a zone 8b now and had this outdoors in its pot under a metal carport roof (no sides). It freezes here- got into the upper teens a few times last winter. I thought I might lose it but it returned! It is smaller than it was. It may need repotting or less sun. My last property haf too much shade. This one has too much sun lol (except out in the wooded parts). I really think this ginger likes full morning sun and dappled afternoon shade. Too much shade it gets leggy, too much sun seems to stunt it.

@beverlyfladeziner Thanks for much! And everyone for commenting! I was thinking of these colored sheets, then contrasted with the green walls; Then staggered shelves above the bed, with on them plants, maybe pops of yellow flowers, and a nice piece of art. I really love the Green/Caramel/Yellow combos.. feels rustic and earthy. One issue is though, that back wall is quite large and I not find a headboard that doesn't make it feel like its being consumed by the wall I was thinking of these Vant panels, in "rust" however that would clash with the color bedding, I think.

That is so funny. I can see that happening for sure. We have our antique 1948 Jeep and when we drive around in it, I can't tell you how many men will notice it, give us a thumbs up, wave or at least give it a second look. I can't tell you how many women don't see it, don't acknowledge it or in one case almost hit it as she was so oblivious. So there are definite gender differences there too!

Bit confused.

Is it that he's written to various airlines pretending to be bizarre people with bizarre complaints, or has he actually collected real letters from the airlines?

Apparently it all started when he had a very disgusting inflight meal of lasagne on a Air 2000 plane - he thought that instead of a letter of complaint (all the other passengers were moaning about it) he would write to the airline asking where he could buy just such lasagne - and so the correspondence'took off' and continued.
Like the Root letters very few of the air lines caught on but those that did entered the spirit of the thing and enjoyed the fun I think most of the letters were written by TR from his own experience of flying hither and thither.

Ah-The Root Letters! A friend gave me that books years ago and I have never laughed so hard. Unfortunately I loaned it to someone and never got it back...it was one of those terrible circumstances-I loaned the book to my boss who was a Dr. he died unexpectedly and I have no idea what happened to the book and was afraid to ask.
