It is nice and cloudy here this morning and have 10mls in the gauge. Cooler about 23C at the moment but still very muggy, start perspiring whenever you do anything then gets chilly when you stop. Supposed to be more good rain coming - fingers crossed.

Still pretty muggy in my part of Bris.

Well you people are very fortunate we have it all down Sydney & back to the Blue Mountains but it only gives the Central west a lick & a promice, we wait impatiently.

Whew it may have been a bit on the cool side this morning, but not now with another 17mm of rain before mid-day its a tad warmer and the humidity is oppressive especially when you are working...All this rain is wonderful and very welcome and about time too....Sorry to hear there is none down your way Jan do you get Winter Rain? as we dont. We need a lot more especially in the Catchment area otherwise is bucket watering for us next month.....Cheers..MM.

Rain beautiful rain. Dear Misti, how pleased I am for you. I was shocked to see that you were having to water with a bucket, I always thought that the eastern seaboard was plagued with summer rain, (not always wanted; washes out the cricket or something), high humidity and fungal problems;(blackspot, athlete's foot .... ). Oh well another myth busted. Seriously though, I knew that some parts around Sydney had water restrictions, but then so has Perth and the lower S.W. All that means is that sprinkler watering is only permitted 2 days a week between 6pm & 9am. It is published in all the papers what your watering schedule is for the week; depending on whether your street or lot number is an odd or even number, what days are your allocated watering days. Hand held watering is allowed each day as long as it is done within the 6-9 time frame. And you know, with even that generous allowance; compared to you poor gardeners struggling over t'other side, it's just all too hard for a lot of people.
If their fully automated retic systems have to be re- programmed, or they can't just bung the sprinkler on when they remember, they just don't bother. It is so depressing to visit Perth and travel through suburbs of dessicated front yards, and know that it doesn't have to be. (laziness, apathy...) Top marks to you and all the others, doing it hard with buckets...
I watch the progression of the weather systems as they travel across the country via the net provided weather services; what we have in W.A, usually hits the mid to lower eastern seaboard, 4-5 days later. I have made a resolution now, that each time the clouds and thunderheads that slip by us with out dropping their potential; I will go outside my back door and blow very hard, facing the N.E. to speed them on their way to you.

Still so wet outside, the garden looks so fresh this morning Wednesday.
Only got another 1.5mm of rain overnight but as least it soaked in.
Thats the trouble here with the huge rainstorms its heaves down and the water runs away

hi rosalie, You have to remember that Perth is a lot hotter and drier than the lower south west, and Im not sure what your damn levels are like down there, but up here in perth we've only just managed to get the damn levels up to 40% at the start of summer and it's taken 5 years to do that. It's not laziness or apathy that has caused Perth to get so brown, and yes it is depressing to look at but people up here cannot justify using water on the street front and it's really considered a big waste of water up here and not the right thing to do. my street front hasnt had any water in 5 or so years and I would be pretty dismayed if people were keeping the street front green just for appearances when we're struggling just to get the dam levels up to a decent level. You also need to keep in mind that some of the Perth dams are not for the Perth area and are set aside for piping water to areas such as Kalgoorlie who dont have their own water supply and do a lot of mining which uses a lot of water so even though we have our own water shortage, we still have to continue to supply other areas like that or they would have to shut down the mining.

Whilst I'm sure some people use lack of water as an excuse to neglect their gardens, I think it is really hard for some people to water within the specified times. I haven't found the restrictions of the last 3 years too much of a problem, but in 1995, when my children were 7, 9 and 11, it was a very different story.
