That could be! I might have to do some probing. I used to petsit for the family that lived there about five years ago in 2006 or so, I'm pretty sure the roses weren't there when I watched their cats. The front landscape was very strictly maintained back then. They moved because the husband got a teaching job in another state. The family that lived at the house for perhaps, two, maybe two and a half years if that after them, maybe even only a year, were a very nice Latin-American family who we believe were somewhat tricked/caught up in the whole bank and housing market snaffu. They seemed to like gardening,albeit unconventionally, I mean they attended (sprayed) an ancient apple tree on the property, which actually looks its best it has in years this year and also planted some tomatoes by the side of the house. The two roses planted at the door of the house have tomato cage supports, it's very cute. I'm not sure how long they had been in Maryland, the husband is not from Mexico, I do know that, I think perhaps Ecuador. They both knew perfect English, but it might make sense to be either 'De la Grifferaie' or an old multiflora like 'Russelliana' if they perhaps were from somewhere out west and perhaps brought some family roses from their old houses there with them? Could very well be the case. They had to move I think because it was just too big of a house and too expensive to pay for- as their family was very small. We now have a Russian family living there and I'm not sure they planted them as the house has been relatively vacant since last summer or fall and they have just started coming around the house- which unfortunately had flooding or water damage this winter as the floor had to be entirely ripped out- a horrible thing for a house built in the 1980's! Shows the shoddiness of modern day construction! I might knock on their door and ask if they planted it, if I could take a cutting, and or if they don't want it, let me know before they dig it up! Whatever it is...it's very pretty. I normally don't see old roses like this, maybe some old ramblers here and there, I have my eye on this rose that's smushed up against an old house near a country store near us - the person who lives there I think is rather reclusive and I've heard to be a hoarder so I probably wont have any trouble investigating it either. I've just never run into a rose like this so overtly obviously OLD in nature in a NOT a proximity to an old house. If anything it's more in line with our house, which used to own the property our neighbors house was built on, which dates to I think 1930. Very curious! Sorry, I meant to type suckers, but it came out runners. I have a few that are about 6 feet from the original plant.... I cut them, pull them, yank them, swear at them, all the time because they always pop up where they are not wanted (like in the lawn) Any that I have given out have come with a warning--- give it plenty of space, watch out for the thorns and unless you want to have suckers everywhere, collar it. I wish I could get it to give me repeat blooms---- but I will take the shade tolerance instead. I think they must be Alba's--- and if they aren't they are giving a pretty good imitation of one. I found three more growing behind my garage today. I should have kept count of how many I've dug out of there, but I'd be willing to bet its about 15. I suspect they are suckers from the original that was probably thrown back there when it was dug up. thanks for all your help.

We call the second one Apple of Peru. A friend gave me some a number of years ago and even though I try to pull them out I still get a couple every summer. I just cut all the branches off of one I didn't even notice beside my house until it was 3 ft tall and the stem was about 2 " in diameter. I couldn't pull it out by the roots because they were too big and would ruin something else. They grow so fast it is unbelievable. I wish I could get some other things to grow that fast. They are very easy to pull out when smaller though and if you don't let them go to seed you should be able to control them.

you will have to use RUp or stumpkiller... can not kill a tree... just by cutting it down ... in my area.. i call them Siberian elm ... bazzillions of them around ... real carpy tree .. had some ice storms 5 years or so back ... no power for days.. as thousands of them shattered over power lines ... weak wooded.. bad crotches ... and apparently heavy seedeers ... kill it with malice and aforethought ... ken https://www.google.com/search?q=Siberian+elm&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
