Lycheeluva! Watermelons in buckets can be done...

Hi, just wanted to let you know that despite big doubters on some of these forums, I proved this summer that watermelons CAN be grown in 5 gallon buckets in NYC. Mine were on my roof in manhattan. I grew 2 sugar baby plants in their own bucket. Each produced 1 melon of edible size, about 6-7" in diameter. Not huge by any means, but they sure were tasty. And that was with not great watering on my part, and allowing some of the baby watermelons to get scorched on my tar roof. Don't give up hope! I'm doing it again this summer and plan to take better care of them, hopefully resulting in larger melons and/or more melons.

Best of luck!
