wow, jim, that's so strange! the thing with me is definitely not that I'm sensitive to anything, rather that I'm completely INSENSITIVE and the only effect I notice is a tummyache. pffft. this is waaay OT, but when I went to the hospital following the second car accident in that awful week last year, they gave me percocet to take if the pain got too severe. I was wary of it, but after a week, when I couldn't even move, I caved and gave it a try, figuring since I was already tired it'd at least knock me out. after about half an hour, my hands and feet went a little numb, and I felt a little dizzy and nauseated. half an hour later, the effect had completely worn off, and it WOKE ME UP. never even took the EDGE off the pain, just woke me up, so I couldn't even sleep the pain away. HOW do people use OR abuse this stuff? karyn, I know, I'm just as cautious (read: paranoid) about "herbal" remedies too. I stay away from EVERYTHING, lol. the closest I ever come to taking something into my body to alter how I'm feeling is a cup of coffee if I'm exhausted, and even then I try to keep my caffeine consumption low. I don't even take aspirin, heh. Ria

Lullaby, the runners/roots run deep. Take a sharp spade and dig down about a foot and get some roots. Immediately plant them where you want them and keep them MOIST. They will look like they are dying, but they will be fine - just keep them moist and they will take off. There's no need to buy them if you have access to them.

I've had good success rooting passifloras using florists' foam as my rooting medium. Take a two-node cutting, and cut about a quarter-inch below the bottom node. (Reduce the size of the leaf in larger-leafed varieties.)Dip in rooting hormone, and insert into a 1" cube of florists' foam (be certain you soak it thoroughly before you cut it into cubes!)until the bottom node is just barely below the surface. Place the cuttings in a shallow tray and add enough water to come half-way up the foam. Place tray on a solid surface in bright but indirect light, and cover with one of those translucent plastic storage boxes. This acts like a mini greenhouse, and keeps them from drying out. Check the water every few days, and NEVER allow them to dry out. Once you see roots growing out the sides of the cube, they're ready to pot up, but be careful to cover the foam completely---otherwise, it will wick moisture away from the roots. As the roots grow, they'll break down the foam. I have NOT had good luck with P. vitafolia, however. ON the other hand, P. caerulea and 'Amethyst'will root in a glass of water!
