For a good budget floor, $4-$5 a foot is your range. For mid range, $5-$8. For upper mid range with specialty finishing, $8-12. Upper end $12+ to +++. Stay away from box stores and ''liquidators'' and other sellers of seconds. Stay away from solid wood if you have a slab foundation. Find a good pro who does nothing but floors and get his recommendation on where to shop. Square yards of carpet doesn't translate to square feet of wood because carpet generallly has more cut waste. Generally though, to get square feet from square yards, multiply by 9. 450 square feet + 15% is 517, and round to the nearest full bundle or box amount. More accurate though is Length x Width in inches, and divide by 144.

Thanks for the replies. It's a bit frustrating to not be there to take pictures or make measurements, myself. DH says that he will try to send some pictures to me, tomorrow. The available depth for an inside mount (backspace?) is about 1/2" which isn't very much. Probably just about enough for 1" wooden blinds. (Thanks for the reference, suero.) tracey_b - I'd love some pictures from your neighbor's house when they get back, that would be very helpful. I looked at the mounting requirements for plantation shutters & they would still need to be mounted on the outside because of the clearances (see link). I know, I just hate to cover up that beautiful trim, so, even if they are outside mounted, I guess they should only be as wide at the window opening & do the center windows individually. The trim carpenter did a great job of integrating the trim of those two windows. DH & I have decided that this needs to wait until I'm there and we can bounce ideas off of each other face-to-face. DD will just have to live with the temporary coverings from Lowes. DH is totally game for building a cornice if that is what we decide on. Thanks & I look forward to any other ideas y'all might have. It looks like you may be planning to use the same art there as you used before; so this idea may or may not work for you.
