Good point rmkitchen (old buddy) but there seem to be those that you just KNOW are spam somehow. They are so overly zealous about their product and don't seem to have any input on the subject OTHER than linking to a site. And some will even start a thread about a product they are trying to sell. The people who are genuinely first time posters most often have questions to ask before linking to some site, such as, "are these good quality" or "are these worth the $$" or something along those lines. But I have noticed that usually the first time poster who only says something along the lines of, "this is SUCH a great product..." or, "solve all your kitchen issues and shop here for blah blah blah..." are the ones you never see again. I would personally hate to think that I had scared off a new poster who truly had questions to ask, that's not what this forum is about. I will admit to having posted a picture of Spam on one thread I was sure had been posted by a spammer. But you know, it's not even that the true spammer post here, it's more about they way they do it. They seem to try and make you believe they are really people interested in this forum. If they had a more honest approach to it, I'd be more willing to accept their

Most of these types of fungi are saprophytes (any organism that lives on dead organic matter, as certain fungi and bacteria) so seil is partly right about the water part. Mainly they need lots of organic matter (mulch) & then water to keep it moist so they can grow. Most of these kinds of fungi are benign to our plants. Other fungi like mycorrhiza (those white treads you see woven thru your mulch) are beneficial symbiots. It turns out that the Clint Eastwood movie, THE GOOD (mycorrhiza), THE BAD (black spot, etc.) AND THE UGLY (stinkhorns), is a good way to think about fungi in your garden.

You haven't seen Iliana's posts, Lars, because as soon as they were posted I reported them as spam and they were removed :-) She was posting a short comment like "You'll love this yummy treat" with a link to a recipe on her cooking website (or so it purported to be, I have no idea as I didn't click on the link). Occasionally the link was for a recipe in the same ballpark as the thread's discussion, but more often it was just a random recipe.

Spam can be easily reported by going to the bottom of any GW page and clicking on the Contact Us link.

Just copy the URL of the thread containing the spam and paste it into the message to them. if you like, you can also include the spammer's member name.

Voila!

The 'powers that be' soon have it gone...zapped...WHOOPS! It only takes a few seconds to report it and help keep the forum Spam Free.

BeeOhio, it was a spammer that responded to that particular thread to bring it forward to the top. It was a promoter of a type of fragrance. The posts have been deleted.
