Mary Did You Know? by Kenny Rogers and I can't remember the girls name...and Silent Night by Mannheim Steamroller...I can hardly listen to either of them without tearing up...

Yesterday I spent almost an entire day trying to find some 'quality', decent ecards to be able to send them friends. By that I mean no glittering, no animation but a good art work (let it be by Giotto, van Gogh or Dahli), beautiful nature photos possibly not overdone or a landmark building that suits the holidays. Top of that, I wanted some nice classical music to attach. After 6 hours of search I found this site: http://www.saturn-soft.net/ They have songs practically all of the modern and classical 'pop stars' but I could find music by classical composers. Halleluiah! No corniness, no kitsch and no glittering in those galleries I checked. (But I checked the classical ones or went to the "composer lists" If any of you bookmarked similar hidden treasures, please let me know! I would like to start a collection of websites with this kind of ecards and music. I try to link one page but I have no way of knowing if it works or not. Red Lover beat me to it, my favorite is also Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. It's such a bittersweet song; it captures the joy of the season but also something I think every year--how precious it is to mark a holiday and have those you love with you. Especially as I (and those I love in my family) get older, it is a thought that resonates with me. I don't ever sit down for Thanksgiving or Christmas without silently giving thanks that we are all together making another memory. "Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow. Hang a shining star on the highest bough. And have yourself a merry little Christmas now."

I had a tape called Ace Cannon's Christmas or something like that. It had several beautiful Christmas songs done with his saxaphone. I played it every year for a long time. One year I took it to work for our Christmas party and it disappeared. I have searched high and low for another one. I went to his web sight a couple of years ago and there were a couple with some Christmas songs on them, but not the same one I lost. My mother plays music at some local clubs and local gatherings. One night Ace Cannon was there playing too. Mom called me and I went to where they were. I was able to talk to Ace Cannon, but he said he had nothing to do with his marketing and inventory and said to try his web sight. I told him I already did, but with no luck. He seemed genuinely sorry, but could offer no help. I haven't tried this year to find it, but I may try again. It would be so nice to find it. Linda

Silent Night used to be my favorite, but now I like Charles Brown's Please Come Home For Christmas

Although Weird Al's Christmas at Ground Zero is great too for a fun time.

Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You is right up there too. I like a lot of different ones.

I was thinking about it earlier today that this year we didn't get bombarded with Christmas music in all the stores like usual. Of course there was some, and most of it was tasteful and mixed in with other music. So it made it more desirable to hear more and I'll probably be playing some overnight. Just listened to Charles Brown... great song.

And I think Carrie Underwood sang O,Holy Night during her TV special a week or two ago, and it was just OUTSTANDING. I'd love to have that version.

Oh! I also love ... just about any Christmas song by Aaron Neville, but especiall the fun one: Oh, What a Night.

1- Mary Did You Know - any artist, but my favorite is Kathy Mattea. Have not heard Josh Groban's version, I'll have to hunt that one up (thanks Stoney!)

2- Silent Night by Mannheim Steamroller. Just beautiful!

Many, many, many!

One that I love that I don't hear very often is the Candlelight Carol (by John Rutter). It is beautiful. We used to sing it in choir.

Verse 1: How do you capture the wind on the water? How do you count all the stars in the sky? How can you measure the love of a mother, or how can you write down a baby's first cry?

REFRAIN: Candlelight, angel light, firelight and starglow shine on his cradle till breaking of dawn. Gloria, Gloria in excelsis deo! Angels are singing; the Christ Child is born.

I also love Mary Did You Know. And all the traditional songs like Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Hark the Harold Angels Sing, Joy to the World... all the songs you sing in Church. Plus a lot of the fun ones, Up on the Rooftop, All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth, I saw Mama kissing Santa Claus, and so on and so on. I love Christmas music, particularly the traditional versions.

"Joy to the world", and I like "O holy night", as well.

"The Huron Carol", a hymn written by aboriginals, from a viewpoint of Christ being born in their mikieu.

Can I say a word for, "O come, O come emmanual", as well?

I hope that all of you to whom Christmas is important ... that each may have a wonderful, challenging and blessed Christmas.

"I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" is a favorite, as is "What Child Is This?"

I like the Halleluja chorus, but the top registers require bigger voices than we usually hear; *shrill* sets my teeth on edge and makes my throat ache. Also, I associate "The Messiah" with Easter, not Christmas.

"I Saw Three Ships (Come Sailing In)" and "Good King Wenceslaus" are nice upbeat tempos in contrast to the more sober, quiet pieces.

"Little Drummer Boy"? Isn't that on the list of most-loathed songs? LOL It's on mine, but to each his/her own!
