My Fabulous find on Freecycle

Someone was giving away 4 ceramic loaf pans on Freecycle tonite. I've been looking for some, and I wrote write away.

She recognized my handle from 2 years ago when I gave her a Dutch oven she was wanting, and some worms for her elementary science class.

She let me have all 4 of them, and they are virtually unused.....the sticker is still in them all!

I never give to the first person that responds. They are the gimme types. They either sell the stuff, or hord it all in their attic, that is if they bother to either to reply to your e-mail or come get it if they do. I think some have auto reply to all freecycle e-mails and sort through the offers later. Lame I say. That tactic does not work with me. I take e-mails for about 1 week and then give to the person that either needs it most of I feel is most appreciative, or just made me laugh in their response. "I'll take that" does not meet any of those requirements. I love it when folks say HI "my name" say what they want and a little about why they want it. And are polite enough to sign their name. I just posted a freecycle list of things. Subject was somthing like "102 misc items". I got over 40 replies. That was a month ago and I am still trying to sort it all out. I reply to 1 or 2 at a time, to not get too confused and offer the same items to more than one person. All seem very greatful for what I give them, and stay to talk a little, which is great for me, since I can not go into public due to severve chemical sensitivities. I usually drag them out to my garden for show and tell. I ask if they are interested in seeing my garden first though. The last lady that came, offered me tons of leaves from her propery when she heard I was allergic to the moldy hay I picked up from a farm. This lady is even going to chip up the leaves for me. I am so happy. I need the leaves since the ground under a few of my trees is bare either from the leaves blowing away, or me stealing them for mulch. She said she had like 2-3 feet of leaves under her masive trees. She is trilled to have found a home for them. I also learned a lot of useful gardening tips from her. She said that she has no fire ants due to the fact sugar ants eat fire ants. She said you can't kill your sugar ants if you want he fire ants gone. Wow, what a tip! Fire ants like poor dry soil and the sugar ants like the nice loose stuff. She said if you do not have that kind of soil, to leave out flower pots of good loose soil for them to live in. Due to her good gardening and ant control techniques, she has converted her whole street to organic. Major feat, since my whole street uses toxic chemicals that they do not bother to sweep off the sidewalk. I have to walk in the street to avoid the junk. She sets a good example, others are anxious to copy. I was so impressed. She offered to bring the leaves to me, since I can't drive due to car fumes, but I am eager to see her property and said my hubby will bring me over there. I said, I wish I had something to give you then I said, oh I just gave you a lot of things, including a brand new printer. I guess when you give someone something you no longer want it really does not feel like you are doing much. I feel the leaves are worth more to me than the printer, and other things. Free cycle is great despite the no shows, the rude e-mails from the demanding sort, the folks that want and never give, and the folks that make tons of appointments to pick up their things and still never come. I give um one chance now and move on, especially if the do not e-mail to say they were sorry they forgot. I have a list I keep with names and e-mails of no-shows, folks that came but took a long time to do so folks with auto e-mail replies, I'll take that" folks that do not bother to answer e-mails folks that show up folks that are very nice So if I get more than 1 request for an item, I can look through my list and stick with those that come and are pleasant. People are so awesome. I posted on Freecycle yesterday that Keith's SIL (I've talked about her before) is trying to lose weight too. She has PCOS and is IR and is hoping to conceive in the not so distant future. She needs to lose at least 100lbs. Anyway, her doctor wants her to start walking more, but with winter coming up, she was worried about how she'd get her exercise in. She can't afford to buy a treadmill right now. So, anyway, I posted this on Freecycle, and I got a reply today. Someone is giving us a stairmaster and a stationary bike. Can you believe it? How awesome is that. At first, I was a little aprehensive about posting this for Shanna, because sometimes she gives up on things too easily. And I can just see this equipment sitting in a room getting no use. But, I'm making her PROMISE that if she doens't end up using it, she'll let me know and I'll come get them and I'll use them. :-)

I don't understand how so much gunk gets on the bottom of pans. I guess it's gas burners? The Lagostina I've got in the scrap-metal pile. Even though the interior isn't chipped, it's completely lost the non-stick, and everything I've tried, sticks like crazy. It's not worth the aggravation to keep it, when I've got good pans. Here's an enamelled skillet I picked up a few months ago. That could only come clean using oven cleaner.

Wow. Nice find. I should be checking Freecycle more often, but don't think about it. I did start getting the emails tho. Guess I should read them closer.

Very nice Jasdip. I don't think Free Cycle up this way has much to offer, at least the emails I get are few and far between. I am glad you will be able to use them.

That's really nice, maybe I should look into freecycle more. Any tips on it?

Freecycle is fantastic for giving and getting.

The key to asking for something is to be polite! I get so many requests for my items formatted like "I'll take everything, where do you live!" Or, Give me your address and I'll be right over.

They immediately get deleted, AND in my Freecycle refusal folder. I don't give anyone anything, when they are rude.

Some people give their items to the first responder, just to get rid of them, but I'm not like that. But I don't go for sob stories, either! Anyone can say anything and make it sound like their world is crashing in.

One lady I know was giving away a wheelchair and gave it to a guy who said his wife had mobility problems. That weekend she was doing yard sales, and saw the wheelchair on their lawn for sale. He and the wife were walking around, and she commented that his wife was cured pretty quickly.

Good find...don't you just love it..when you get something you want....

I got one over the holidays...but will be picking it up on Wed. It's a playstation game I've been looking for, for a long time. I had the game, but my ps2 broke. I found one on Craigs list for 20.00. Then couldn't find the first disc plus several other games. I think my son tossed them when they were putting the wood floor in upstairs.

I looked on ebay and the game (it's called Alundra) is selling between 123.00 and 159.00....no way I can afford that. This guy has both discs but no book or orginal case for it. He's selling it to me for 8.00...To me that's like "free" after seeing the prices this game is bringing.

I have the orginal book and case here...but I'm not buying it to sell...I just wanted the game. I really enjoyed it.

A couple others that are missing that I am looking for are Luner Moon red and Luner Moon blue.

I was out picking up some mason quart jars that I bought for $2 for a dozen.
As I was leaving he wondered if I knew anyone who wanted the Crown style (the glass lid and rubber ring), for free.
He has hundreds he said.

I just posted them on Freecycle, and I'm kind of kicking my butt for not getting some, but space is a premium too.

I'm using them for dry storage, not canning purposes. I do have the pint jars for my chili sauce when I make it.

So on hind-sight, I could have gotten the Crown ones.

Jasdip, Those are cute! I always forget to check freecycle. When I have looked there wasn't much, but I suppose it is one of those things that can grow if people like me just use it.

So, have you made anything in them yet?

Personally, I'd probably take the tags out of them before using, but it's up to you! :D

With all the pressure to bake something in them, I'd better get cracking! (pun, get it, cracking... oh well)

I had my loaf of bread baking in the oven, when I got the email saying I was gifted these pans. So it'll be a couple days again before I bake. But YOU'LL be first to see it!!

You can still make quick bread, meatloaf, lasagna, scalloped potatoes or any number of things.
