Fabulous Patios
Right now I am dreaming of a break in the Atlanta heat so that I can enjoy being outdoors again, but I know that a lot of you other lucky ducks live in places where August is the best time of year to enjoy your patios. I've been working on a patio design for a client, so I turned to Houzz for inspiration and to show them to her and find out what styles float her boat.
What I love about this group of patios is the site planning. They show a harmony between the homes and their surroundings. Often a patio is an important transitional space between indoors and out - it's viewed from inside, and one has to walk over it to enter inside. These spaces all provide great transitional experiences from indoors to out, as well providing spots you'll want to stop and enjoy for awhile.

This perforated metal woven wall is spectacular. Note how the entire space plays with horizontal lines, and how the lighting enhances the space.
Kapow! This long, L-shaped orange planter wall defines the patio and gives it all kinds of personality. It also grabs the eye, so that you forget you are in what otherwise could be a boring airshaft-like space.
I stumbled upon this lake house recently and I'm completely obsessed with it. This patio is a great example of great full site planning, where the house and its surroundings flow into each other seamlessly.
Outdoor fireplaces are a huge trend in patio design right now. How great would it be to grab some marshmellows and sticks and have s'mores after dining al fresco here?
Someone posted this patio to The Buzz and I'm grateful. It's a secret garden that's perfect for relaxing and socializing outdoors.
Don't you get the feeling whoever lives here spends equal time indoors and out? The patios here provide spots for just about every activity imaginable!
