Oh my gosh! Donna... I feel your pain. Never had a broken pelvis, but had a broken femur. That one took about 4 month to heal enough for me to put weight on my leg again.

Thanks, Moni! My doctor said not to put any weight on it for awhile and then he closed his office for vacation. I'm hoping he's back on Monday so I can ask him. It's just good to be back upstairs where my computer is! I've missed you guys.

Well, good grief! And I guess you got the idea for getting out of teaching school by breaking a bone from me, didya!!?? LOL You SHOULD have done it at school and that way you get to ride in the big, loud ambulance and everybody makes a fuss and it's so embarassing!

You poor thang! And I guess the darn dr.'s office won't open back up until Jan. 2, which is probably when you're due back at school, hu?

Coral, don't know what to tell you but just want to hug you (very gently) and tell you not to overdo it - especially until you can see the dr. again and get some instructions.

If your classroom was on the bottom floor you might ask for light duties (ie. somebody else to pull all your duty!) but with it being on the 2nd floor, I don't know.

Geez, what a clod you are, Coral! ;) Seriously, I really am sorry that you hurt yourself. I just checked with Woody, (EMT) and he thinks being back at work in a week sounds a little soon. Can you arrange for a leave-of-absence? I would hate for you to overdo yourself and cause a problem. Also, are you taking Calcium and Vitamin D? I think you should be, you and I both have a slight frame and we are at more risk.

As an aside, it sure is nice to see you here again. I've missed you! Do you still love me as much as you used to? roflmao

Don't know about the medical side of your question, but won't the school let you switch rooms? They should, unless you teach a subject that involves a lot of heavy or installed equipment (science, home ec, horticulture, etc).

Know it's hard to track anyone down over the holidays, but I'd see if I could get in touch with the superintendent or principal as soon as possible, and see if they can work something like that out for you. Most schools around here are happy to accomodate that sort of thing, rather than have to replace a teacher who wants to work with a sub. Good luck.

Coral, OMG!

In 1968, when I was a teen, I was involved in a automobile accident that caused me a total of 29 fractures. I was in a body cast for 6 months. I was very thin, but my 12 pelvic fractures hurt worse than anything. They always hurt as long as I was thin. Now I have more "meat" on my @$$ and it doesn't bother me.

If you have a fat @$$ you will be fine.

When I was in 8th grade I fell down the outside stairs at school b/c there was ice on them. I landed square on my butt. I got up rode the bus home and thought I was fine, aside from dying of embarassment! When I got home I went to sit on the couch and felt (and heard) something "snap". It wasn't painful, but I knew I couldn't sit down. We called my mom's friend who was a doctor and he said as long as I could walk without pain, I was fine. Pain with walking meant a more serious problem. Mine might have been a minor dislocation with lots of bruising?

That's why I'm worried about you and being in pain with walking!!!

Anyway, it hurt to sit, and to change (like get up from seated positions). Walking up stairs was okay, but I had to take it REALLY slow. I think I was scared of hurting it even more! Our doc friend said to sit on a donut-looks like the inflatable inner tube for as long as it hurt. It did feel better by relieving the pressure on your tailbone. Other then that, not much else to do. I don't remember how long it took, but it seemed like months before I was sort of back to normal.

One week doesn't sound like nearly enough time to let yourself heal!! I'd say more like 1 month! What did your doctor say? I'm sure you could get a note for medical leave!!

Now 20 years later, I get VERY stiff, very fast when sitting on a hard floor, and I have a lot of fat there now! My back muscles feel weaker then they should. I seriously blame most any aches and pains on that injury from long ago!

I have no medical training, but after reading a bit about pelvic fractures, I can see where there might be some question about your returning to work in a week! If it were me, I sure wouldn't want to risk doing anything that might compromise the healing process. I don't know if the link below will tell you anything you didn't already know, but here it is. wheel chair time?

Coral, I broke mine about 23 years ago. I still remember the pain, I broke mine while trying to pop a balloon (my sister's 40 th and she couldn't break her balloon) on a concrete floor. I not only broke the balloon but I broke my tail. I was taken to the hospital in the same position I was in when I landed.

It took me only a couple weeks before returning to work, oh and the pain to laugh, cough etc. Months later it would hurt if I sat wrong or to fast. I do remember the donut! It was my main relief.

So sorry about your injury. Did the doctor say it was ok to return to work in a week or are you just supposed to be there in a week. 2 different things. I think you need more time to heal. Talk to that doctor before you go back. Don't want to do anything to cause it to heal improperly.

Yup, wheel chair time. I just got off the phone with her. She sounds positive. Will get herself a handicapped tag for the car!

She is still not sure about work, waiting for the call. Donna's outlook is great. :)
