How do you put a GIF (or any picture etc.) in a private message or e mail??? I tried to put one in a Private message on another forum and all it does is insert the code and no graphic. I had it in Photobucket and tried Image code, HTML,et, and nothing works.

Caroline, this forum (GardenWeb) is rather antiquated compared to many others. I like that because I enjoy how open it is, but it is also limited. Most forums, like Meeting House, for example, will allow you to add your siggie so that it automatically appears each time you post. Also, not all of them support HTML but another language. For them, you need to copy the [IMG] line from Photobucket instead of the HTML line. When pasting your siggie tag and other graphics, make sure you end your line with [/IMG] if it doesn't automatically appear. But that's the line you use for setting it automatically also. Let me know if I need to explain this better.

For email, your client will allow you to set up automatic signature. Tell me what email client you use.

First, put the picture file on your local hard drive, or a any other drive attached to your computer. A USB thumb drive should work also. Keep track of where you put it (drive and folder>sub-folder).

When you compose your message, look to see if you have the option to 'attach' a file. If so, do it. You'll will need to know where the file is (drive and folder) so you can tell the attachment applet where to find it. A brouse type of box should appear after you select 'attach file'.

This should work for any picture file format: jpg, tiff, bpm, etc. Of course, the receiving brouser/email utility will need the approrpriate plugin to decode and display the image picture file.

Jemdandy, that's not quite the same as adding a signature, and different email accounts don't display attachments in the same manner. Also, she wants it to automatically be there in each email she sends out.

Caroline, I posted instructions here for creating an email signature. Hope that helps.

Yahoo! Plus has a feature to add graphics to emails. But I explained how to do the signature in Yahoo in my link, so you it will be there in every email you send out.

When you say private message of a forum, do you mean the posting you do on the forum or that you want it there when sending one person a private message. To distinguish the difference, a private message is a message you send to another member so others can't see it. It's just private communication between the two of you. I don't know if signatures show up in PMs but if they do, it's because you set up a signature for that board and it shows in all the posts you make. To set it up, upload your siggie to Photobucket and copy the tag appropriate for that board - either the HTML or the [IMG] tag. Go to where you set up your profile on the board. That's wherever your personal member information and personal preferences are located(your account, member information, member profile, or whatever that board calls it). There is where signature ability is located. Paste your link tag from Photobucket.
