Meet Libby, please

I got her from the shelter a couple of weeks ago. Doesn't she look like a sweet one? Believe me, looks can be deceiving......she's a holy terror....has ripped many plants apart, and is constantly on the go. Resident cat Dudley was pretty alarmed at her antics at first, but is now reconciled to them, and actually rather likes her. She is very loving and cuddily when she's not tearing the house apart. I took plants down to the basement, I'm wondering how my Christmas stuff will make it through the holidays.

She's about six months old, so hopefully she will mellow out!

At the bottom I linked to Libby's Pride, and yes, I was the first to list it in the 2010 SSE Yearbook and sent seeds to Mike at Victory Seeds, who offers it now. I'd have to look at some back Yearbooks b'c I don't rememember what I thought about it but I did send seeds to an SSE friend who lists it in the 2014 yearbook and knowing her I'd say that her description was on the luke warm side, I haven't grown the Aunt Lucy one and there are no listings for it in the 2014 Yearbook and here's Tania's page for it, seeds offered by Tomatofest. http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Aunt_Lucy%27s_Italian_Paste#tab=General_Info And yes I've grown Dix Doight de Naples which is the correct name for it and it looks like both Bill Minkey and I first listed it in the 1997 SSE YEarbook. http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Dix_Doights_de_Naples#tab=General_Info And I did think very highly of the above and remember it well b/c it was the first variety I ever got a somatic mutation with, same as a sport with apples, etc, and one branch had fruits that were still red but an entirely different shape. I've also grown the Martino's Roma you mentioned, listed that one in 1993. Maybe it was the year you grew it since it always turned red for me here in zone 5 upstate NY. I don't know where your grandfather came from but all of the above originally came from different areas of Italy. If Italy is you focus I can also highly suggest Mama Leone http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Mama_Leone That one was introduced by Nancy, the same person who who still lists Libby's Pride in the 2014 Yearbook. I should mention that none of the tomato varieties that are in the SSE Yearbooks are available to folks who are not SsE members if you aren't familiar with SSE. Please forget about the various Costolutos and San Marzanos from Italy b'c IMO while they once had excellent reputations, not so for most folks today. Hello everyone, My name is PAM. I write it in all CAPS as there used to be about five Pam's here and this was an easy way to help differentiate. Not an ego thing, honestly. I hail from central PA. I have been on RP since the mid-1990's and remember the Spike years and being "Disneyed". I visit here regularly but have posted less frequently since I 1) got divorced and 2) started to work full time. But now I am getting back to RP and it feels great to be back "home" amongst friends. George Gissing is my favorite writer and I tend to go on and on about him occasionally. I do enjoy the classics but need to read more of them. As I get older, I find I am spending less time on fluff and more time on the non-fiction and the classics. (Present book club book EXCEPTED... ugh... true crime by Ann Rule.. someone SAVE me, please.) I read almost anything except romance, western and sci-fi. LOVE well-written non-fiction especially micro-histories. I shall definitely be crushed one day by my books. I love to garden but need more time. I enjoy needlework but need more time. And when it comes right down to it... I put away the needlework, let the weeds grow, and pick up a book. I am in three book clubs but often just show up for the wine. (AstroKath... Rosemont Estates is one of my favorites.) My favorite thing about RP is that reading is such a solitary passion (not hobby, PASSION), but here at RP, I can share with like-minded, intelligent, kind, people. Oh, and I am engaged and soon to be married. Life is so good. PAM

They do look so innocent when they sleep, don't they? Here are some pictures of my Smokey when he was 6 months old at Christmas.

Hint:Don't put anything breakable on your tree. My cat before Smokey was such a gentleman. He liked to sleep under the tree or lie on his back under the tree and watch it rotate. He NEVER touched anything.

Awww... kittens! lol Winston was a holy terror at that age - he broke 3 or 4 glass ornaments last year. Hopefully he will not be so naughty this year.

omgosh..i love kitties and puppies, youre an angel for adopting her. i miss having animals so much, but for right now until i can get my life straight i cant have one...yet but i will. congrats on youre "holy terror"" almost like the terrible 2's. lol

I just can not believe what you write here about that sweet innocent girl! She would never do such things!

This coming from the mama of 8 cats.... I may actually try to hang up some more glass ornaments this year now that my cats are older. We had so many years of at least one kitten in the house!

When I was in college my roommate and I adopted kittens from the pound. It was right around our birthdays, so November.. We bought a little tree and placed it on an end table in our living room. We woke up one morning to the lights strung all the way down the hallway, the ornaments broken or just torn apart and the poor tree was in the kitchen! But you know, we never did catch the culprits who must have snuck into our apartment! Lol....

I believe you! Those sweet faces don't fool me anymore. Libby looks just like our "oh mom please, she's so sweet" holy terror. She's gotten a LOT better, but that first Christmas we had a squirt bottle of water on the coffee table the whole time. After a couple shots across the bow, all I had to do was pick it up and shake it. Smart kitty.

I believe you Phyllis. I have her partner in crime. Peggy Sue is 11 months old and will destroy anything and everything. My azalea, which is poisonous to cats, is hanging from the ceiling out of her reach. She has killed several African violets by knocking the pots to the floor during the night. She hides my cell phone by knocking it off a table and hiding it under the sofa. I still haven't found a remote she hid a few months ago. I am almost afraid to put up a tree.

As far`as the tree.
Foxy is the same breed as Libby, and was a rescue cat, less than a year old when she came to live with me.

When we put the tree up, I filled an old squirt bottle with water, and sat it by the tree. Whenever she made a move towards it, she got squirted, and heard a loud, short "NO". Not drenched, just enough to make her back away. We did that all through the holidays. She learned two things...don't touch the tree, and the meaning of NO.

By the next year, she would react to anyone just picking up a squirt bottle - and still does.

She loves to sit quietly at the foot of the tree, and watch the train under the tree go around...but I haven't found anything broken or on the floor.

Looking at that sweet, innocent fur baby, it's hard to believe she would do anything wrong....And like Trish, this coming from a 4 cat momma....
There have been years when our tree was horizontal more than vertical...But I think the "kids" have grown up. Other than sleeping behind it or under it, they have left it alone. (knocking on wood)...We also used the squirt bottle and they all know, mom means business when she gets it out....
