Best Buy trying to redeem themselves

DS shared with us that he wanted another lens for his camera. Happened to be on sale at Best Buys a few weeks ago but the store was out. DH went online and it was also on sale there for the same price and no shipping. So he ordered it. About a week later he got an email notice that they were cancelling the order as they would not be able to fill it. DH checked and yes the amount was refunded to our account.

So he found the same lens on sale at Amazon for the same price and ordered it - arrived earlier this week.

Forward to today - DH gets an email from Best Buy stating that they were sending us an Ecard in the amount of the lens (rounded up a couple bucks). It said to print it out and take it to the store or use it online. Okay - we are wondering if its for real, a scam or if there was some issue and the amount hadn't been refunded as we thought.

Nope, money was refunded, he printed out the email, took it to the store and went to the service desk - yes, its for real - they were doing this because they had some really bad press cause they couldn't fill orders that they said they could.

So, DH got himself a theater sound system for a few bucks more. DS still gets his lens and Best Buys redeems itself, at least for us. Don't know if everyone who ordered something and was cancelled got this or if it was only for those who had something ordered, they cancelled the order and the buyer did not come back to get something else. Don't know which.

Anyone else have an order cancelled? Check your email - you never know!

I heard about this on the news tonight Best Buy waited until the very last miniute to advise customers

I have some dianthus, myosotis, campanulas, mini daffs, all planted around my roses. I just LOVE the myosotis planted there. True blue flowers and look gorgeous! I don't care if they fill in the whole bed around the roses. The only problem I'm encountering now is the daffs. The daffs need divided this fall and I'll have to dig them up around everything. So, lesson learned, I will never plant daffs in my rose bed! lol I'm surprised that anyone can plant iris in their rose beds! Those would need dividing too. The dianthus and campanulas work well, and if they get to large can be sheared back.

Thanks everyone!! Having to take a break until the kids go up to bed tonight. I am hoping to get a first coat on the upper portion tonight. This weekend DH should be able to cut the wood for the landing. Hopefully, he likes the way it looks :~)

I read and understand that I've no idea about seventies. Probably because our seventies were your fifties and sixties.. So I associate seventies with mid century modern. That's why I like it actually-reminds me of childhood. eighties-yes, I already remember some shift..but probably toward eighties? I never saw colored fixtures until I came here..so to me this is like, wow, cool. Our current house was built either 68 or 70. It's a ranch. A Spanish ranch. I really love it. Even though I struggled with having standard ceilings in most of the house..that's because our standard ceilings were minimum a foot higher than standard ceilings here..and we lived with even higher ceilings, older houses, built pre-war etc. So that part was really new to me. Luckily previous homeowners put some skylights in. And we also put one in our addition. Totally changes your perception of height. And I also painted the ceilings the color of the walls, each room..or rather the proportion of the color that would look like it's the color of the wall. Makes it less ..white lid effect. Less oppressing. Also added layered lighting everywhere, including central lights-although many advise against it since it accentuates ceiling is low? Well I didn't find it being true, at all. You have focal point, instead of just staring at the ceiling..it breaks it..takes your attention off the height. Some things are strange or I dislike regardless the decade..say we were choosing bathroom fixtures etc and saw a stainless steel toilet, for 800 or so I think? in one of the stores It's an exact copy of what they used to have in prisons. I couldn't believe my eyes. I still laugh when I think of that toilet..really? But probably someone who doesn't have other cultural associations finds it cool? If it's being manufactured? And costs 800 bucks, at that? As for depressing colors..it's very personal, really. And cultural too I guess, to some degree. Every color has a potential to be happy or sad..some have bigger potential to alternate between both, like yellow. It's like, in some countries black is associated with mourning. And in others, white is. I heard a story somewhere about a cruise ship from here that went to Far East..maybe China, but I'm not sure? Most of the passengers happily wore white-very summer-y color..and then they boarded..and then locals looked at them in a very very strange way..they didn't understand why so many people are dressed like they're going to a funeral, but have such wide smiles..:)

A few years ago I decided to try to grow my own produce, having grown up on a farm where we grew all of our own food. Since I live on a small city lot, there wasn't a lot of space, so I cut out more than half of my driveway and re-landscaped that area to be a garden/orchard. I put in a fence with espaliered trees (apples and cherries) on one side, along with a fig tree, all of which are pollenated by my own mason bees. I then built raised beds in different configurations and use those along with barrels and bits of open spots for all of my summer veggies, herbs and tea plants. I was fortunate this year to be able to can beets, tomatoes, green beans, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries from my garden. I eat strictly from my pesticide and chemical free garden all summer long, and sometimes well into the fall. I do try to winter over some veggies, but thus far haven't mastered it! I buy fresh tuna from the coast and can that to last all year as well. For the rest of my produce that I can't grow, I shop the local farmer's markets and get my eggs from friends that have chickens. My roasting hens come from a local farmer that butchers only twice a year, and also supplies me with cheese making supplies and fresh non-pasturized milk that freezes wonderfully. As I've gotten older, it has become more important to me to eat organic, chemical free produce. It feels better to eat healthier, and I enjoy being able to taste real food. What I can't grow or find locally, or for those occasional snack foods, I just head to the local Whole Foods. I also try to eat by the season, only those foods that are normally grown in that season, which tends to eliminate buying produce from other countries which may be less controlled regarding pesticide use. It's not easy to eat healthy, and does take a lot more prep (which should be much easier with the new kitchen!), but it's worth it to feel good and healthy. I think a lot of our current health problems are related to the diet that most Americans eat and I am hoping to counteract my bad genetics with healthy (albeit expensive) eating habits!

It's good to hear something GOOD about a business.! Bravo to Best Buy! I hope this goes far in encouraging other stores to make things right when they've messed up. I think it's called customer service.

Thank goodness we had plenty of time to find the lens. We certainly weren't expecting anything from Best Buy so it was a nice surprise. For all of those who weren't notified in time, it was warranted for sure. In the long run, it probably totaled a drop in the bucket of their revenue. Evidently we were the first at this store to bring one in - none of the employees we had contact with knew of this happening before.

"Thank goodness we had plenty of time to find the lens." Seriously? If you had had to wait for it like in the old days, maybe weeks AFTER Christmas this is a tragedy of epic proportions how? They told you ASAP they could not fill the order, they refunded you in full. You got all you should have. This is not a life/death deal it is a CAMERA LENS, for an ADULT who should get that sometimes stores run out and sometimes you can't always get everything you WANT! The fact that Best Buy is fueling everyone's entitlement issues is very sad. "Jesus is the Reason for the Season"!!

Best Buy will not win back my business, and if they are still here at this time next year I will be surprised. I'm glad you were accommodated so well, mboston but this was not the norm this year. Most folks found out, just this week, that orders they placed over a month ago were not going to be filled, some found out on the news last night. That company just doesn't seem to understand what customer service is.

In the past 6 months I've tried to make 2 large purchases from them, a $2500 refrigerator and a $800 iPad. In both cases I walked out of the store after not being waited on even after asking for assistance. (For the record, I made the purchase elsewhere within an hour.)

Like Glenda, I'm not a fan and there is no redeeming themselves with me.

arcy..she did not demand this, did not ask for it, was not even expecting it. She was excited about it. Why throw cold water on her?

I'm glad to hear things worked out for you....I've never had any problem with Best Buy and have always gotten a very good deal when shopping, in factwwe've gotten all of our electronic "toys" there.....
We have 2 local grocery stores that sell gift cards and also give you points to get gas cheaper....Both stores had been sold out of the Best Buy ones and when I stopped at their store, the gal told me, too many people were getting the cards, redeem for merchandise and then return it for the money and in turn are still getting the points for the gas, so they had to stop putting them in the stores.....

I agree, Jesus is the reason for the season but, I don't agree with the bad comments......

Nasty might bring coal in your stocking.....

Arcy - wow! I certainly did not imply that it would have been a major issue if the lens wasn't here. It was just an expression I used. Thank you Jean - you were right, we didn't expect anything at all and were just surprised when the email came. And yes Lynn, the people who weren't notified in time deserve much more than those of us who were notified in time to make other arrangements. Evidently their marketing department needs to coordinate better with their distributors. Their demand far exceeded their supply.

I don't think that they deserve anything more than you received, mboston, and am happy they are trying to make things right with you. I just think it is a shame that it has to be done at all, I think the company should have given a bit more notice than the two days that some are being given.
