computer problem help

I'm using DS' laptop in the parlor right now I did something stupid on my desktop in the office there was a button on my taskbar that said to change settings for better viewing so I pushed it it took me some place that gave me the opyion of changing to an option of maximum or something like that now my desktop and all places i want to visit are all black background with around 1/2 inch white lettering and i cant find that link on my computer wgat to do DS will look at it t6morrow. isnt there a way to change the date back to yrsterday to give nme tesettings i had before?

No, that won't work. Can you find the taskbar again? Try putting the cursor outside the edge and right clicking.

Sometimes just shutting down and restarting will fix things.

Howdy. I should have said the programs name is Punch! Ultimate Deck "and Landscaping". Sorry about that. All of the .phd files I located came up with the same message: "This does not appear to be a SketchUp model!" I think SketchUp is a Google program. Right? I had the Punch program a long, long time before loading SketchUp on my computer. Could the .phd file extension now only belong to Google, and that's blocking Punch files? Mikie, before originally posting I tried maybe a couple of dozen programs (using your method) to see if they could open the .phd files. Nope! I tried SketchUp, too, and got the same message. I wonder what is meant when it refers to "model"? You guys have made me think that somehow SketchUp might have become the designated default program for all .phd files. I look for more blocks to check. Since Punch won't respond maybe I'll send a note to Google's SketchUp section and see what comes from that. I appreciate everyone's help. Gene

Ok to strart off I have a sony vaio vgn-fs980...on a random day my touchpad stopped working and I connected a usb mouse, after a while I got annoyed carrying the mouse with me, I went on a website for help and I followed some instructions on getting the driver downloaded, therefore I did , as soon as my laptop restarted my touchpad was working, however when I tried to go on the net and say thanks for the help I noticed my keyboard wasn't working ,...it only gets the keyboard when its in the start up...I need help...my laptop has been like this for about a year, I really don't have money to get it fixed and I'm a fulltime student I really need my laptop running right...any help? I don't know if this helps but as I went into thr device manager under batteries I noticed that under microsoft AC adapter there was a yellow exclamation mark..and the same for microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery...what should I do.

First of all you will need to figure out why the CD Rom does not recognize the recovery disk. The user should put the recovery disk in, then reboot, see if the disk is recognized at that point. If you get the NTLDR message it's still trying to boot from the hard drive. Check the boot order in BIOS. Now come back and tell us what happens and what error is generated when the user boots the computer with the recovery disk in it. Then tell us the user has checked the BIOS and the CD rom is listed as the first boot device. If this computer is back from repair with the same issue I can only think the hard drive is failing....

It could be that you have a slow video card. When was the last time you upgraded it? Web pages, these days, are becoming more graphics intensive and that requires faster computer display graphics to keep up. You could have several apps runing in background that is hogging processor resources. The third item is memory. Things get slow if you do not have enough memory. A RAM upgrade is one of the easiest performance enhancements one can install.

Whew. Glad it's fixed!

My mom and I went through something simliar years ago. Except, dummy me, I couldn't figure out what she meant. Until I finally drove over and saw it in person. Ah ha. Click, click, fixed. Now if I could've just gotten in via remote desktop it'd saved me a drive. She had the taskbar on the side and I just couldn't figure out what she meant. A "sidebar". Huh? She'd unlocked the taskbar, and slid it so that it was vertical instead of at the bottom and horizontal. Got it. I thought she meant she had an auxillary "thing" going on. HA!

Glad you got it fixed. A lot of years ago, a co-worked managed to change her text color to white and then complained that her computer wasn't working right - it took a long time to figure out what she had done.
