Have you tried White Pages or Zabasearch?

You can also usually access the phone book of the area where the person lives online, as well.

You might also try just googling the person's name, and see what pops up (if you get too many wrong responses, try putting in the name, followed by the town they live in.)

Of course, if it's a cell phone # you're looking for, they're often not published, so that would be a bit harder.

Hope those suggestions get you started. Good luck

1 800 Free 411. You of course have to listen to an advertisement. Sometimes the recorded voice does not get it right, but it is worth a shot if you are out and about and need a phone number.

Hi want to retire ... did,

When I saw your subject line, I wondered whether you were giving up a landline (which, when we sign up for, we get assigned one) ...

... or wanting one for yourself for a cell phone/smartphone (but I assume that we get one assigned when we sign up there, as well).

So - I guess the decision of others that you want to find the number of someone else without having to pay a fee is the fact of the matter.

"Canada411" seems to do it quite a lot of the time around here.
