I hope they follow through with this case and really crack down on all of the telemarketers schemes.

We have gotten so many calls, I'm ready to throw the phone out the window. I already blocked 25 on our Comcast site and another 25 on my land line phone. They keep changing the name but the numbers the same. So far today I've received 3 calls from seniorcomplete and another from V6231106330012274017. All 4 have the same phone number. A few weeks ago I've received at least 25 calls from different places with the same phone number. I've reported them and also update my do not call list. I don't know when it's going to stop. We do not answer any of these calls. The blocked ones from our land line will ring once and quit. The blocked ones from Comcast do not ring at all. I see these call when I go into Comcast to block new ones.

What's sad is people don't answer unknown numbers. What if it's a loved one that can only call from a pay phone or had to borrow someone's cell in an emergency? All of these unsolicited calls are out of hand.

Hareball, I often think that. I enter grocery store contests, etc, and they'd obviously be coming in as toll-free numbers when I win. But because it's toll-free I won't answer. I could be missing out on millions!

As Sushipup mentioned these calls are out of the country and they can't be charged. They actually BUY the DNC list, which is why even DNC's get called.

I've got an answering machine. If I don't recognize the caller then I don't answer. No one leaves a message. That's telling.

I had TWO spoof calls today. Once the caller Id said the name and number of a college near me and the second was a salon I have never used. They even manage to outwit Nomorobo.

When and where did you last see a pay phone? Don't pay phones and borrowed cells allow you to leave a message in this emergency so I could pick up? If not, I guess yes, that is sad. Oh, wait, maybe my unknown "grandson" will call that he's in jail and needs me to give my cc number or wire him money to get out!

What's REALLY so sad is that people are SO gullible they fall for these scams! The scams would stop when people quit giving them money! But you never go broke banking on gullibility and stupidity.

I reject any toll-free number. I have better things to do with my time than waste it with these telemarketing scammers. Phonetrayfree has been a wonderful addition. I can block numbers, names, partial names and partial numbers. Most give up after 3 or 4 rejections. Lupus, however, is persistent, but not as determined as am I. I'm SO glad I'm not one of those poor misguided souls who simply can't keep themselves from answering a ringing phone! And it's amusing how a few people (who shall remain unnamed) who have had family members involved in these telemarketing scams are now noticeably quiet and not defending these poor people who are just trying to feed their 17 kids... :)

Jasdip, it's HIGHLY unlikely that a winning advisement call would come from a toll-free identity. The company has their name showing most all the time if they're legitimate. Not sure what name shows when the Nigerian General calls though so you're on your own with that one.

And who on earth told you scammers are buying the DNC list? The scammers? Pardon me my friend, your "slip" (in logic) is showing.

Hi Cynic, I guess I didn't mean scammers specifically buy the DNC list, but Telemarketers in general do. True, if told to be taken off the list, or that they're on the DNC list and don't call again, they have to abide by that. Otherwise they can be charged. Few telemarketers get charged though.

I get calls from local numbers all the time (our area code and the first three are our local cell numbers ex. ***-***) at first I was picking up because I thought it was someone who was calling off a borrowed phone. It was Karen from cardholder services and this new one about a Disney trip. I even got that one asking if I could hear her because her headset wasn't on right... Now I don't even pick up unless it's a number programed in my phone. Ugh.

I get my share of telemarketing calls like anyone else but I don't find them bothersome. If I don't recognize the caller ID of an incoming call (including any that reflect ones I've entered into the system contact list), I let it go to voicemail. I wind up accumulating (and deleting) a lot of 5 second messages composed mostly of the sound of a disconnecting call. Meaning - the call wasn't one I needed to pay attention to.

Edit to add - I have a Panasonic cordless phone system that has "talking Caller ID". I don't need to get up to walk to a ringing phone, I can listen for the phone's talking feature to tell me the information.

I find them very bothersome. They are annoying and ridiculous. If I can find a way to sue everyone of them I would. When you get 43 calls within a few weeks from CCI, yes, it quite annoying.

Heather from account services is still at it. I'm getting multiple calls a day on my cell phone from her.

Put me on the list of people who do not answer the phone unless I know who it is. A couple of years ago my cell kept getting called from a new number. After I didn't answer three times my brother sent a text "answer it is me". He is a pilot calling from over seas on some internet deal... I figure if it is someone you know who needs to get a hold of you they find a way. I have no worries about "a relative calling from a pay phone...." Yesterday I answered. Name of caller on the caller ID, didn't know the name but I answered. Scam about my home going 'back on the market'. Oh well, my system isn't full proof!!

Hospitals have pay phones, police stations have pay phones, and there's even a pay phone in the parking lot of my grocery store. Also if someone were to call from a borrowed phone they may not have access to it for very long. If it was an emergency the last thing I'd want to worry about is having to leave a message and wait for someone to screen my call.

Hareball, I guess that's where you and I differ. I find no problem and no worry at all about someone taking a few seconds to say "It's me..." and waiting a few seconds for me to pick up. And I am not a person who cannot go without answering a phone and I'm a person who doesn't automatically assume every phone call is a life-or-death emergency. I don't like phones. They're a tool that's there for MY convenience and benefit. No different than a garden hose or an electric drill.

I can't speak for police stations since I haven't been in one for a long time but I haven't seen a pay phone in a hospital around here so I guess that's a difference where we live. I've been in at least 4 or 5 different hospitals in the past several years and they all have phones available for people. Nice feature. I don't think they can make long distance calls but probably could with a calling card. Not one pay phone in any of them. I haven't seen a pay phone anywhere in years.

Actually I really don't even like talking on the phone and don't answer it much either. lol I just know there have been a few situations where people had tried to call from different numbers but luckily it was before all of this got out of hand. My grandmother got stranded on a dangerous road and didn't have a cell phone. Luckily someone stopped and helped her and called me. Yes a message could have been left but I'm glad I answered right away. It was a stressful situation for her and not knowing if anyone was going to answer would have made it worse. I love my grandma and would not want any added stress on her :)

Unfortunately we also get these annoying calls on our cell phones not just our landlines.

I had my CallerID come up with my own name and number. It's the only time a scammer made me laugh.

I wish there was phone that would automatically block all calls except the ones I add to the directory.
