My Youngest son (now gone) had a Barbershop Quartet while in High School and they went out for a couple of years and even made some good money caroling

Our sorority group used to do this every year, there were 12 or 15 of us plus our spouses. One of the fellas used to string lights all over his truck too! We gathered names of folks that people knew were elderly and/or alone and would appreciate the enthusiasm that we all shared....cuz talent was somewhat lacking! LOL!!!!

I really miss doing that, we really had fun.

I went caroling a couple of times with a group of friends when I was in high school and had a ton of fun! I live near Buffalo NY - but when you are a kid the cold doesn't bother you at all.... it was so much fun maybe I will ask my DH if he is interested and we can ask friends to go this year! (3 decades later)

hostapasta, come on over the ditch to St. Catharines ON and we'll bundle up and sing with ya! I think it would be fun, but not so sure how we'd sound! We could take something to keep us warm!

I used to go caroling when I was a Girl Scout and sometimes for church when I was in a youth group. I do have good memories of it... but I'm not much of a singer so I couldn't see myself doing it now.

For the past few years I've been coming up with games for the kids (and adults) to play at both my MIL's house and my parent's house at Christmas. I buy a little gift (about $10.) for the winner. All the kids look forward to it now. We've played "The Left Right game", card toss (tossing Christmas cards into a basket at the end of the hall), Guess what's in the stocking (little items like combs,peppermint stick, pens etc.in a tied off stocking.. give everyone a few timed minutes to write down what they think is in it), Famous Faces (Celebrities pictures printed out to guess). This year I've compiled a bunch of Christmas movie trivia and think I will have everyone yell out the answers..give them a poker chip if they are right. The person with the most chips wins. I think that will make it more exciting than everyone just writing answers down on their own paper.

I'm throwing a Christmas party this year too.. started out just inviting friends, but ended up inviting a lot of neighbors too. DD will be home on Xmas break and was just inviting 5 friends but her list is already growing too. I 'hope' this turns out well, I am excited about it anyhow.

Yes! For years, our church went caroling. There would be 25-30 of us, and we'd walk around a part of our city that's very densely populated, with apartment buildings and three-deckers. We'd sing as we go, and stop in front of the apartments for a song or two. It was so much fun, and people would throw open their windows to listen.

I hadn't gone for nearly 20 years, but last night, I went with Chloe's Brownie troop. We went caroling in an historical area. The whole street had put out luminaria, which was just beautiful, and there were candlelight tours of three historically-significant houses. It was so much fun!

Yes, members of our community theater group went caroling in a small town near us, I'm not sure how we sounded, but one old lady called the cops on us and when the gendarme came, he told us to move along. LOL

I was a Girl Scout/Brownie Leader for many years on Military Bases and we always went caroling. Since then, maybe we have lived in more rural areas as I haven't even heard carolers unless we go into town for the Christmas parade. Grandson that lived with us one year played his bagpipe in Christmas Parade....nearly froze my fingers and toes off!!!! But it was fun. NANNY

Which brings up the question " what are you supposed to do when people are caroling at your front door?

When I was young we used to....I loved it.

I would still love to do it...and if we did I would like to dress like one of the Dicken's characters.

I don't know if any of you remember them..but back in the 50s and maybe earlier...my parents had Hancock Insurance. They gave away little Christmas song booklets to their customers.

I have several of them...and everytime I see them I think about the days we went caroling...carrying those books.

I've found my books at auctions...they are all the same but are dated different years.

I went with a group and sang at our convlalescent hospital once.
In my lifetime I've never seen or heard carolers other than outside Macy's in Union Square.

One of my favorite Christmas memories was with my best friend who rented an apartment in a small town in Amish country many years ago. I had gone down to pick her up on a cold Christmas Eve night to go somewhere and as we stepped out of the big old house in which her apt. was, we saw a group of young Amish adults walking from house to house. We watched as they went up onto porches and sang!

So we couldn't resist and started to follow. They told us to join them, well, we had a difficult time singing along because they sang in German-Dutch! Especially remember "Silent Night" in German. Beautiful. After a couple of houses we left them and came away with one of our most wonderful Christmas memories.

Our church goes caroling to shut ins and to nursing homes. I have never gone caroling, it isn't done out here in the country.

LOL If you are out caroling don't come to my door - the kids that do it around here only want money. I love it though when carolers walk the streets and sing for the community or visit nursing homes and hospitals.

I used to have some of the kids from the neighbourhood and my friend's kids come over for an afternoon and make Christmas decorations for their trees, My sister always had our nieces and nephews come over and make little houses out of graham crackers and let the kids decorate them with all kinds of candies, sprinkles and icing. That was fun.

I miss doing those kind of things with the kids but they are all grown up now.

I live in a town of about 50 people. My daughter belonged to a 4-H club when she was younger. The leader had a wagon with a team of horses. In December we would all bundle up andhave blankets to cover up with and sit on the bales and they would drive around town and we would stop at all the houses and get off and go to all the doors and sing carols to them. We never got any money but some people would invite us in and give us cookies. After we were done we would go to the hall and have hot chocolate and more cookies. The wagon was like a covered wagon. Since I went to a country school and most of the kids went to a really small school here in town we didnt need song books because we had all of the songs memorized. It was so much fun.

As a child , in Blue Birds (little Camp fire Girls) we went carolling in an old age home. also brought little gifts for the residents. I remember I brought an ivy plant. the old lady I gave it to was so happy, she gave me a whole dollar to get ice cream. Later, in college, went carolling in the town with my dorm mates. We finished by going to a bar and getting a beer. Back in those days, ,it was legal to drink at 18. Now it's 21.

We did it as kids. And every house we stopped at loved it. Breenthumb...some people sang along with us...others just enjoyed the caroling.

I've gone with my kids to the nursing home and we love it. My kids have asked to do it around the neighborhood this year, but we have to recruit more people to go with us.

A group of us from church pile into a couple of cars and go around Caroling each year. We live way way out in the country, and it is so much fun to surprise folks out here with our singing. We start singing before we even get out of our cars and then walk up to the front of their home and sing a few songs, and then sing as we get back in our cars.. Many times, we will be invited in for cookies and refreshements...
Lots of fun.. and people love it..
