"...what a mess he has made for those he supposedly loved." And, what a mess he's made of his own entire life! A life that had so many blessings and the potential for even more. It's really, really sad. Another example of what men are willing to risk for what essentially is a roll in the hay. Years ago I watched the Oprah interview with Rielle and she clearly stated that she had sex with John Edwards in a hotel room after they met at a large party. Then she started working for him as a filmaker and they fell deeply in love. Oh, yes, deep abiding love! Soulmates, no doubt! Oh, the women think it's love and the men think it's...something else entirely! Don't mean to man-bash, but I do think men can compartmentalize about sex like nobody's business. Who knows if it's true, but it's reported that when John first learned of Rielle's pregnancy, he said, "That crazy slut!" Yes, that's surely the response of a man who is deeply in love. Women be wise! Sure, not all men think and act like this, but if I had daughters, I'd want them to have their radar tuned to the possibility. And of course, don't give yourself away so easily...And of course...don't sleep with married men! It's a paved road to all kinds of heartache and trouble. What's in store for John? It will be interesting to see. I don't suppose he's "in love" with Rielle anymore, do you? I bet he SO regrets the day he met her!

I too was a bit scared to open this thinking something had happened to her. Quite honestly, I don't see EE posting those blog entries. If you saw the Oprah interview she did last May, she was far from supportive of her husband and his campaign. Those entries were from last winter when she was writing her book. I think she was far from a supportive wife at that point. If she had posted that he had made an irresponsible error in judgement and selfishly hadn't thought about the effect of his actions on his family - THEN I'd say, she posted it! He really is a dog. I cannot stand men who cheat on their wives, and then lie to cover it up, and then when they're caught with no where to hide, confess a partial confession and then continue to lie until they are again forced to come clean. Really, he should be ashamed of himself. If he had just confessed the affair in its entirety up front and at least said the baby may be mine, I'd be a little more forgiving. But no, first it was a one time fling, then it was a 6 month affair, but the baby isn't mine. Now it was a serious affair, that resulted in a child - and by the way, I knew all along it was mine, and I visited it and supported the mother and baby via funds I asked a friend to front. He's so slick, he can barely stand up.

I'm so sorry about the passing of your Sister. That damn cancer is a horrific and nondiscrimination disease. The passing of Elizabeth must have brought many memories back to you. It doesn't matter how much time has passed, news like this brings the pain back. We lost our precious Daughter-in-law a year ago in June. Although the pain has eased some, the empty feeling will probably be there until i join her. I send you (((((Hugs))))) and wish you Peace.

"Listen" to her beautiful words, posted on Facebook: You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces- my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope. These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And, yes, there are certainly times when we aren't able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It's called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful. It isn't possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel to everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say: you know. With love, Elizabeth.

I will pray for the blessings the family needs at this time - Elizabeth will get her reward, IMHO. She was a strong, brave woman - I am sure she will be eulogized the world over. R.I.P., Elizabeth.

Hopefully this brave dignified strong woman who inspired so many people, also had a STRONG will to insure that only the children will ever inherit; and pond scum John can't touch a thing ever.

Whatever your political leanings or thoughts about her husband, John Edwards, it is clear that Elizabeth Edwards was a remarkable woman whose strength, clarity and dignity could inspire any woman. The link below is a tribute to Elizabeth by Melinda Henneberger.

May she rest in peace.

It's sad, for sure, but I don't really call it so "fast". It's been over 6 years and with the cancer she had that's a long, long time. My mother died from the same cancer and it killed her in 6 MONTHS. I've been surprised she's lasted this long. The initial prognosis was looking at 6 months, 6 years ago.
