It's funny, but I was thinking about 'the wrong' Christmas presents in the 'self giving' thread. My first washer & dryer were second hand. I saw an ad for them early one January: New, never used Maytag Washer and Dryer, half price, can deliver.

When I went to see them the seller said his wife had left him after he gave her the set for Christmas.

Boy, they were wonderful. Lasted 20+ years. Maytag probably isn't that good anymore, but what is?

Only have one washer & dryer. That is down stairs but I don't mind the stairs.

If it will help you & you wanted the extra set then I am glad you are getting it.

i only have one set, but it is the front loading kind and I love them!!!! The only stairs in this house go up to the man cave, so I don't have to go up there unless I want too..

Good for you! Mine is in the (finished) basement, but it is a front loading set that I brought off CL. Very easy on my back, as I can sit on a stool if needed. The room has two rods for hanging shirts, tops, and pants. I cut a hole in a kitchen closet, and made DH create a laundry shoot. That way, the baskets always stay in the laundry room.

Now take care of that cold! Your health comes first.

I only have one set but don't need another since my upstairs is just the guest bedroom & bath over the garage, so not a lot of laundry to deal with. I can definitely see that in some houses it would make life a lot easier. In my case, I just wish mine wasn't all the way across the house from the master bedroom & bath, which is where most of our laundry comes from. Hope you feel better & enjoy your new laundry room.

Marilyn Sue, yes we have two laundry rooms. Its great when the grands are over as sometimes both laundry rooms are in use at the same time. Perfect for us to have them up and downstairs.

Good for you Sue!!!! I know of a few homes that have a laundry chute going to the basement. That's find to get your clothes down there. A "dumb waiter" might be a good thing to build to have the clothes go to the top floor easier!

I wish I had a laundry room, but mine are out in the garage. But, we don't have freezing weather either. :) I'm glad you found something that works for you, Marilyn Sue. Hey, those of you who have yours in the basement, do you also have laundry chutes? We had one when I was young and I thought it was the BEST idea! I didn't even do laundry at that time, but probably tried to lower other things down it.

I get to use the apt. complex's laundry facilities....LoL

Do you have a laundry chute that's just a long upright box, good for only one-way traffic, i.e. you throw the dirty stuff in, to get collected in a basket at the bottom?

If you are, or have a spouse, or a friend who is, a handy person, maybe they can rearrange it to make it into a two-way street?

If you could get or build a box just the right size to fit into it, you could attach a rope to it, split to attach in three or four places, so that it pulls straight up and doesn't bind.

Maybe you could just have the rope attached to a hook just above the top of the chute and pull the box up with some clean laundry.

Or perhaps you could fasten a pulley above the middle of the chute, then have the rope pass over it, to allow a pull without hanging your body into the hole.
Perhaps you could arrange a second pulley at the top to have the rope slip down beside the box, and you could get a slim weight to attach to the bottom end of the rope when you wanted to pull the clean stuff up, to help lift the load.

You're funny Ol full of Joy. That would really look nice in my home, ropes and pulleys plus cutting a hole in the ceiling that has electric heat and have to mess with all that wiring up of the tiny wires. Yes, all the men in our family are very handy :)
