Your parents asked you not to come because of safely issues.
I am glad you made it there and home without a tragedy.

Stacie, I think, there are just a lot of "older and possibly wiser" members here, that would have stayed home.

I understood you in your first post. If you live near the snow flurries and white outs can happen even without warning.
Bet your kids thought it was quite the "adventure". Some people will pull out the negative in every post some people make. Don't let them drag you down.

All you did was try to have a family Xmas. Bet you don't leave your kids behind like some parents do these days to go have their own fun. I know you have your problems but your family values aren't one of them. (((Monkeymama))

If the people in ND had to stay home everytime the weather man predicated blizzard, we would never leave the house, But then I would never drive in CA with these roads like I did today. Minot had 16-24 inches of snow Christmas day and driving was very interesing. More snow coming, I am willing to share? Right nodakgal???? We love to share!!

You're adventurous - we wouldn't be here today if it weren't for adventurous people. No harm done. I'm amazed how judgmental people are. If some folks knew the full story on my brother's holiday travels they'd probably expect him to burn in hell. Fortunately I don't pass judgment on him or anyone else.

I wasn't feeling that you were up to any monkey business.

A few years ago I met my young ones on the edge of the city, about nightfall, in early winter with a plan to travel about 30 miles to a lakeside resort where they were to meet with some cousins, whom they rarely saw, to be present when a couple of other cousins who were coming some distance were to play their music at a restaurant.

The weatherman had been talking snow, and I don't remember whether much suggestion of a blow accompanied the message.

In any case, my children, who were in at least their twenties - maybe thirties - at the time, but who'd not had a lot of experience in dealing with snow, wondered whether we should call the trip off and go home.

I've had experience in driving in snow, including blizzards, in a variety of circumstances, so assured them that I had fairly good judgekment as to when it might be risky to continue, and would turn around and come home if I felt that we were nearing it.

I usually carry a shovel, extra clothing, a sleeping bag and some provisions when travellling in winter.

So we travelled up there, with no trouble ... or even anything approaching it. I don't remember whether we slept over, or returned home after the evening's entertainment.

When you receive criticism, try to step away from yourself and have a discussion with yourself, playing devil's advocate, as to whether there might be some validity in the criticism - whether what you'd done was wise.

After all is said and done, apart from abusing others, we are each one responsible for our actions ... and are almost always called upon to deal with the consequences.

Sometimes, if we are wise enough, we can learn lessons for our own lives as we observe the antics of others, as well.

"Bachelors' wives ... and old maids' children ... are always well behaved", Dad used to say.

I've been caught in a white out before, and it was pretty scary being so disoriented and not being able to see a thing.

Thank God you hit a snowbank and not a tree.

Stacie, you may have put your parents through he!! to get there; it could have been a tree or another car, who knows. Count your blessings that it wasn't worse than it was. At least 48 people did die in accidents in this blizzard. I couldn't find injury statistics yet.
