I know I haven't posted much. Most of you don't know me, but I have lurked for a while. I sometimes just jump in and post and you have always welcomed me here.

I just want to say THANKS! I have laughed over so many things here that ya'll have posted. I can always depend on feeling better just by popping in and seeing what you all have been up to or into to...LOL

Merry Christmas everyone...may only blessings come your way this new year ahead of us.

Thank you and you seem mighty nice, so visit more often. I don't post too often as my dial up is sooooo slow, but I do visit nearly every day, if you don't you miss a lot. lol

With pumpernickel bread to sop it up! I remember when we were little she went to the store to buy us cereal and came back with a box of Bugles! we kids giggled as she poured them in the bowl but had to think fast when she wanted to pour on milk! we quickly told her we didnt like our cereal with milk! Another time when I was sick she made me a concoction of chicken soup,honey and whiskey! Never complained about being sick again!

Thanks everyone. I miss you too, but thank the stars that my DH brought his laptop and we can get a connection. We are here with my DH's parents and sister and hubby and their 2 teenager kids. Our room is on the third floor and that just happens to be the only level in this house that we can get a connect. (happy me!) The ocean here is not bathtub warm, but it is warm. Feels cool, but you can just go right in with having to get used to the temp, no matter how hot it is. Feels cooler at night but still not chilly by any means. It seems much saltier to me than the Pacific...maybe because this is an inlet...dunno. Is the Atlantic saltier? Body buoyancy is much greater as a result (or could it be that my increased body fat just makes me float like a cork?----hmmmm. :) They are shooting fireworks again. The Garden City pier is 1.7 miles northeast of our beach house. A nice walk that I have become accustomed to doing every morning. The first day, it was all I could do to climb the stairs every day. I thought I would die from lack of air! I took it a little at a time, and walked a bit further each day and swam out a bit farther each day. Now I am able to comfortably stroll down the beach every morning and having a blast in the surf. At low tide every morning around 5:30, I go out and comb the beach for shells and things. Most of the shells are broken, but some manage to make shore intact. The moonstones are lovely - tumbled pieces of shell or quartz, about half the size of a dime. So lovely. I am finding black shells, which I had never before seen. Found a piece of branch coral yesterday. That is very rare in the inlet. There were some guys on the beach this morning that had been finding tiny shark's teeth. They gave me one - the best one they had. Very cool! I am enjoying the children on the beach. they are so cute to watch and delightful to chat with. The Legend of Captain Jack is one that is famous around here. I asked two little kids this morning who were sitting at the shore digging if they had found any of Jack's treasure yet. They looked up with complete earnest and said, "Nope, not yet". I said, "Me neither. Darn." they bobbed their heads in complete agreement of my sentiments. I asked them if they were searching for buried treasure and they looked up and beamed, "Ya!" "Have you found any yet?" "Nah, but we think these might be broken pieces. Not sure" They held up little black pointed slivers of something, and I could for certain say whether they were or were not pieces of shark teeth, but I suspect they were in all actuality slivers of black oyster shells and not shark's teeth at all....but I was not going to spoil their enthusiasm and fun. Darling little sprouts they were of about 5 or 6. ((HUGS)) ~ Annie Down here with some sorry "sunny beaches", but having a great time in spite of it all.

Hi Merry Heart! I was figuring you must be at the lake. Hasn't the weather been wonderful....so much cooler and cloudier than usual and not nearly as much rain these last 2 or 3 weeks. It sounds like you had a great time there. I am still getting ripe tomatoes from some sorry-looking plants too, and I am very grateful for that because many people here lost all their tomatoes to the rains and/or flooding. I am slowly removing the yucky plants after I harvest the last of their good-looking ripe fruit, and am replacing them with fall tomato plants I raised from seed. I have been doing that since June, and some of the June-planted replacement plants are already 3 to 4 feet tall and have blooms and fruit, so I think it will be a good year for fall tomatoes at least. I always grow about 15 tomato plants in containers (in additions to those in the ground), ranging from 5 gallons to about 30 or 40 gallons and they always do incredibly well as long as I keep them well-watered and well-fed. This year, Better Bush, Jaune Flamme, Early Girl, Little Lucky, Lucky Cross, Kimberly, Orange Banana and Nebraska Wedding have done very well in containers. Several others, including Ultimate Opener, Red Star and Galina's Yellow did not do as well in containers. Susan has had really great results with a tomato I think would be PERFECT for a container. I think it is Husky Red Cherry. There is a whole line of Husky tomatoes that are short internode plants which are great for containers. In the past, I have had lots of success with Better Boy in containers too. My melons have been slow too, but have finally begun to form fruit. My pepper plants are like yours....smaller than usual and bending under the weight of the fruit. I bet that we will harvest peppers until the first frost, though, so the plants ought to be able to grow and get a little stronger. I also have basil everywhere, and have been having to cut it back and cut it back and cut it back. The flowers are looking great, and it is still hard to keep up with all the mowing and weed-eating. We had bobcat problems earlier this spring/summer....he got a total of 2 chickens and 2 guineas, but we haven't seen him the last 2 or 3 weeks, so maybe he has moved on. The coyotes haven't been howling and running much yet, but it is usually August when that kicks in big-time, so I guess time will tell. The river is back down in its banks, although a lot of pastures near the river still have huge amounts of water that just will not drain and dry up...so I am guessing the water table is high under those pastures. We have had lots of deer, including one doe who always leaves her still-spotted fawn on the edge of the woods while she (the doe) nibbles around the edges of the garden. I just love little fawns, so, of course, I have been putting little piles of cracked corn, sunflower seeds and hen scratch on the edge of the woods so the fawn can eat them while the doe devours the garden. (She stands outside and reaches over the fence.) We are having tons of birds (including some we've never seen and haven't identified yet), butterflies, moths, frogs, turtles, dragonflies, etc., so it is a great year for sitting out in the lawnchairs at night and watching the wildlife. It IS hard to believe it is August 1st, and we haven't even hit 100 degrees yet (which is OK with me). I hope we have a really late first frost so we can enjoy a long, lovely, mild autumn. I went to the 25th of the high school I would have graduated from if we hadn't moved to FL before I was a senior. It was a blast, I had so much fun and it was great to see how the young kids I knew growing up turned out into lovely adults. I got to see my old neighbor, Ted, who was just a rotten kid and a troublemaker, now he's married and responsible and a family man, that was special. Woody went with me but left after the dinner, we had a long drive ahead of us the next day. I was having too much fun to leave, some of the "kids" looked exactly the same and others were unrecognizable. All of them were nice, though. It was a fun evening, 2 actually, we had an informal meeting at a pub type place the first night and the country club the 2nd night. The only sad part was watching the same 2 women get totally plastered each night. I felt really bad about that, what a waste for 43 year old women. It was embarrassing to watch. I'm glad I went though, it really was helpful for me to stop imagining everyone as 16 year olds and see them all grown up.

PS - I'm in northeast Florida and it is cold isn't it? I guess it's okay to be cold for a few days, but it better head back to where it came from on December 26th!

I love to bake so there is plenty of cheesecake...anyone like a good banana pudding?? I know most of you don't like egg salad so I have whipped up some chicken salad instead for the sandwiches. LOL

I just feel so blessed lately. I am grateful for everything I have...and especially that my Mama is still here for me to enjoy....or at least get a good argument going with her...hahahahaha.

Oh...have I mentioned that I'm 49, married to the most wonderful man and have one 21 year old daughter in college over in Pensacola Florida? We live in Panama City...amazing that it only takes 1 1/2 hours to go to Tallahassee but 3 hours to go the same distance to Pensacola!!!! Interstates can be amazing on cutting time off of travel...LOL

Anyway....Thank you my new found friends!!!!

BTW, I'm a 54-year-old Kansas gal, dreaming of moving to a warmer state when I retire. My DH isn't the most wonderful, in fact he's pretty darned ornery ... but we make a good match! He's retired, I still have a few years to go before I can follow in his footsteps.
