Email on Garden Web - Help, Please

Just before signing up on Garden Web, I had a secondary email address, begun to try to reduce spam on my main account. This is what was used when signing up.

That address wasn't needed, after all, and was dropped quite awhile ago, and edited on the Garden Web "Welcome Member" page. However, when attempting to email anyone here (I've only tried twice), it's that old, original address which shows up as mine.

Because of that, I can't allow folks to email me! How can this be changed?

One other question, when you make your email available, do you get unwanted and unsolicited mail? In other words, have you had any problems with allowing mail to come through? This has been making me even nuttier than usual, so thanks in advance.

Yes...I had trouble back in my earlier days on GW and despite my reporting the offender to Spike, the unsolicited, nasty ems and stalking persisted for a long time...even though the offender was banned from that particular forum. Thus, I gave up posting in the GW forum that I attended on a daily basis and permanently blocked my em address from all GW member contact. It was a rather unnerving experience. It spoiled my participation to the point that I left GW altogether for a few years.

Today, I've found that if I'd like to privately communicate with a particular KT member they usually have published their em address and I use their contact info...making sure that I put the fact that I'm a KT member in the subject line of the email in the event that they may not want to make personal contact outside of the KT forum. Then, if they accept my em, they have my em address from my communication...and we can go forward from there.

I'm pretty "seasoned" when it comes to computers so my experience was not from lack of computer knowledge/protocol. I later learned that the offender had a reputation for this type of behavior but that didn't lessen the bad taste the whole experience left in my mouth.
Today I err on the side of caution.

I've never received any kind of Spam or similar from GardenWeb from having my email made available.

I haven't tried changing it, it's my primary email address, so I'm not sure how you'd do it, if you can't do it from your Update page.

Otherwise you can try contacting them using the Contact Us button.

I think that someone else went through the same thing recently. I believe that she finally gave up and registered again. I think she had to change her name slightly. Maybe you could just drop the "s" off the end of your sign in name, and use the new email. Good luck! Aggie

When I sign in GW, its the home page. Then I open "Forums" page. There you have all kinds of listings of the forum, alphabetically, by name,....you name it. But, to me most things that gardeners grow(not landscaping, not flowers, ..) fit into VEGETABLES. There you can see a bigger crowd talking about all kinds of vegetable(including tomatoes, peppers ,.. herbs) The next crowded(w/most participants) and lively forum is "Growing tomatoes". No wonder b/c tomato is the most popular vegetable grown by gardeners across USA and elsewhere. I personally, also visit the following forums regularly: --- Herbs --- Alliums --- Asian Vegetables. --- pumpkins, squash... --- beans, .., legumes ... I also do go to my regional gardening group forum on occasionally. Not very often, because I am not interested in shrubs, landscaping etc. I already know enough about them and it is not something that I have to deal with everyday. Also, I have no interest in issues like container gardening, harvesting, All in all, there are many forums for just about anybody who wants to learn or contribute.

I would try dropping an email to Tanya (is that correct?) asking for help. Not sure if it will help or not. The other thing you can do is if you email someone via their page is give them the correct email in the body of your email. The same thing happens to me every once in a while, not sure how or why.

Jasdip, way back in the Spike days there were robots that harvested email addresses and then sent copious amounts of junk, including horrible porn. That's how I got a hotmail account!

I can't tell you how many times I've changed my page, only to have it revert to day one. The only things I've been able to keep changed is the favorite forums.

Never a bit of trouble from having my email listed. Have gotten a few welcomed emails, though.

Linid, if you use the Contact Button, odds are you'll reach Tamara. She should be able to help you.

I'm sure getting ugly smut now in my Spam folder, but it's not from here. It just started in the past few weeks.
The F bomb is mentioned in the subject line. Yuck!

When I had some trouble, I change my name and email address and that seemed to work. When I do email a member I try to put in the subject line--from KT member and most of the time I do get nice replies. There are some here I would like to email occasionally but cannot because the choose not to release a email address.

I've always used my real name here, but never my real email address. I first got a gmail address as a second email, but had all kinds of technical problems with it. Then I got a Yahoo address and I have had it as my email address on GW. I didn't want my real address out in the public realm. I've had some KTers email me from My Page and I think everybody knows to identify themselves as from KT, or at least I hope they do. I don't recall ever getting any porn type stuff, but my memory is not all that good anymore so maybe I've just forgotten it.

A while back My Page got all fouled up for some reason and I contacted Tamara and she tried to make it right, but it has never been right since then.

Hope you get it all worked out and don't have any more problems.

Tamara has always been very good and prompt about helping with problems. She helped me get something (I forget what it was!) straightened out last year.

I've copied things from GW (recipes, etc) and emailed to myself when I wanted to share with my sister. These are emails from member to member. I can't remember the exact wording but there is automatically a GW identifier that says something like "Pris from GW thought you might yada yada yada." I can't remember if it's in the subject line or not, though.

You can email someone outside GW directly but I don't use outlook so can't do that. Or could be that I'm not smart enough to figure it out how to change outlook to yahoo in My Page info.
