There was a smaller turnout at the last minute due to a date change caused by bad weather, but we had a lot of fun. Played a couple of fun games like "here's a bag of a few pertinant things, you have 4 minutes to turn this person into Santa Claus" and another of "draw a picture on a piece of paper that is on top of a book, that is on top of your head." lolol Artists, we are not!

Lots of cute ornaments this year. One lady made us all a pair of earrings, she owns a bead shop, I love them! I don't wear dangly earrings, so I'll turn them into something else, probably. 2 different kinds of cardinals this year, a pinecone one and one made from cinnamon applesauce, they are both wonderfully cute. 2 things made from cans, a Coke Santa star and a painted snowman on a pull top from a can. Another painted snowman, the bigger one in the top left corner, he's cute. A quilled snowflake on a glass ornament, just exquisite! A clay pot bell, really adorable, and a Santa face on a rusty bell, really primitive and charming. And a big green bell with greenery on it. A little penguin made from a bell. An angel, that tiny thing, it's make from all kinds of pasta. A beaded star. A paper star. A painted star. A little wreath with a cookie cutter snowman inside it, filled with plaster and painted. A cute brown crocheted mouse. A little tin/game where you try to get the 5 little bb's to line up on the holes for a snowman's mouth, really neat and reminded all of us of the games that used to come in Cracker Jacks.

It was a great party with wonderful ornaments. We all had fun and I hope you like seeing the ornies.

Those look so cute Flamey. It would be hard to pick a favorite, but I do have a thing for little penguins. :)
I'll bet they love the star thingie you made. It's very pretty.

Love the pictures! I would love to have a party for my Lhaso but she does not like other animals. Very jealous. She even tries to chase them when they are on television. A few years ago Wal-Mart had an actual dog birthday cake in the pet section. We got one for Sandy and she loved it. Can't find them anymore.

Thanks, ladies! Here is how the party works- One woman hosts the party- she sends out invitations, puts up her tree with ornaments from years past, cleans her house, etc. (She has the hardest job!) She provides the cups, plates, silverware, drinks, and a couple of snacks or dishes. She also provides many different serving platters and has her table ready to hold all the different foods that the ladies will bring. She invites 23 other women. Each woman is to bring 24 ornaments that she made by hand and a dish of their choice. They bring the ornies wrapped or loose, in a bucket or bag or on a tray, whatever, and puts them under the tree. Once everyone is there, we all get a drink (punch, soda, wine, eggnog, water) and then fix a plate of yummy goodies. We sit in the LR and eat and visit. Then we usually play some kind of Christmas game. THEN, she draws names and we hand out our ornaments, telling a story about them, or giving tips on how they were made, or why we picked that ornament to make, something. Everyone oooohs and aaaaaahs over the ornament and starts a pile by their chair. Then when they have handed out their ornie, they can use their bucket or bag to hold all the new ones they are getting from their friends. Once that is all done, we usually mill around more, visit, do some private trading with leftover ornies, eat more of the desserts and then finally leave, usually around 10 PM. We started at 6, so it's 4 fun-filled hours. I always bring Woody home a plate full of yummy treats, as his reward for staying home alone with the dogs while I have so much fun. :) It's great fun.

They're all really good and you're making me miss the ornanment swaps I used to get to attend. I left that company is 1993 and only stayed in touch with one of ladies, but not the others. I still see her, but she lives so far away now, no ornament swap. I noticed there are three running themes at these things. I now have enough ornaments for an all Santa tree, all angel tree, and all snowman tree. BIG grin! Sure, there are others in there, but those are the main three. I love it when someone does something a bit different like your elf on the shelf. Which is adorable! I meant to say that the other day. Looking good! One year, I did itty-bitty teddy bears with plaid vests and big red satin bow ties. Another year, I embroidered snowflakes in metalic thread on cross stich material that went over a 1 inch button. Then I braided the leftover metalic thread and wrapped that around the button. My two favorite different ornaments? A gingerbread boy and girl pair made from punched tin and a girl made entires of tiny bobbins strung together with pretty ribbons. Here is a link that might be useful: punched tin like this...

I do appreciate every single person who makes ornaments for the party every year, it's a great excuse to have a get-together and there's a payoff, because it's like you're getting 2 dozen presents. And yes, they made a big fuss over my stars, but I really felt like it wasn't deserved. They're OK, but not fabulous, you know? I think after the faeries, I feel like everything is too easy. My problem, I'll get over it! lol

Lydia, so far I've got 2 ideas going. One is a half-walnut pirate ship and the other is a matchbox birdhouse ornament. (Both swiped off the internet, I might add!) lol I bought some walnuts for Woody to carefully crack for me, but he's damaging more than he's getting in good, usuable condition. Is there a trick to that?????

Wow, what a nice collection. My favourite ~ the red cardinal with the feather tail, but I would really be hard pressed to choose just one....lol

Oooh! Cute ornaments! I'm thinking that I've read for you to heat the nuts for a little bit before you crack them and they will crack easier!? (Now, let's see if we read about a microwave/oven explosion........LOL)

lol, YaYa, I googled it and someone said to freeze them first. I guess I'll try freezing first 'cause I don't need to blow up my new microwave! When the spaghetti squash burst out of the old one, it nearly gave me a heart attack! It's bad enough when black walnuts fall off the deck and land with a BOOM! Dangerous, too.

Very cute, all of them. I hope you pick the pirate ship, would love to see it. I made walnut ornaments one year, with a little white mouse inside made out of pompoms and wiggly eyes.

Real nice ornaments .My favorite is the real fat snowman on the top left,and of course your stars,one of these days i'm going to try my hand at those stars.

I'll have to take a picture of my walnut ornie/desk sitter.I bought it years ago at a craft fair,it has googly eyes,a pom pom nose and a sea shell glued on to the bottom to form the neck and make it stand,and the hat is made with a styroform cup that they melted down in the oven and formed it into a hat,and is adorned with a red rose bud.Cute and like i said i've had it for years,it sits here by my computor.

OK i just took the pictures so i don't forget,i'll upload them a little later so you can see.

All the ornaments look so cute-I can't pick a favorite. I have an idea- for next Christmas, I think I'll try to arrange an ornament exchange between/ among myself and my two sisters. We stopped exchanging big gifts this year, but I couldn't completely wean myself from gift-giving. I sent everyone stocking-stugffers. hand warmers for the guys and socks for the girls.

Jannie, you should definitely do that and round up any other craft or clever friends that you have, too. The more the merrier, I say! It's sad when everyone is done handing out their ornaments, we all hate for it to end. Half of the fun is in admiring the item and asking how did you do this or that, exclaiming over its cuteness, etc. LOTS of laughter during this part of the party.

Those are cute, Kathi. Boy, would my cats have a ball knocking those off every day!

See the "mouth" on the sewing nut? That's where I'm going to stick the knife in my walnuts! Owie!
